hi, i just got a Rockville RDAC5S dac, i was considering connect to my samsung TV.
Connedctions : Connect tv toss cable ( optical ) to back of Rockville, then rc cable out from Rockville then connect RC cables to ( Cambridge ) Receiver. ?
or should i just go straight from TV Toss cable to back of receiver and forget the Rockville Dac . Is there a big sound difference between the 2 setups.

Only your ears can tell you which sounds better.

In my experience, running the TV digital signal, in my case optical, into an external DAC has always sounded better.

I'd try the optical out to the DAC, analog out of the DAC to the receiver.

Then try the optical out from the TV to the receiver directly and see if that sounds any better.

Good luck with your testing.

It seems like your receiver already has an optical (toslink) input. Rockville is known as a low end, budget brand on the same level as Pyle, so it's doubtful that your external DAC would be any better than the one in your receiver.

update : i finally got the Rockville connected via optical to samsung tv, the rockville rca cables to my Receiver.
everything work fine , EXCEPT it keeps shutting off about every 4 hrs or so. Could anybody figure this out.
I double checked all connections and seem to be working, the only thing that i read about had to do about the codecs, or a bad toslink cable.
Any thoughts ?

Weird timer on your Samsung

Update : found the problem, sound on Samsung Expert mode was set to auto, also the Rockville Dac does make a big difference in sound quality.
I tried just hooking the Optical from TV direct to receiver, and it sounded flat.
Also the Rockville Dac has its own volume for headphones which makes it a plus.
If I had a large room with more space I would have opted out for a more expensive
( System
) Dac. But can you really here the difference between a ,
100.00 vs 500.00 Dac ?
