Dahlquist M-907's

I found a very nice original owner set of Dahlquist M-907's listed on Craigs List in a town I was heading to for business and was driving. After some research on-line, and there was not a whole lot out there, it seems the entire M line is overshadowed by the much more popular and in service DQ line. The little I was able to read on them, folks were really surprised and impressed once they heard them. That's the sort of stuff I like to be on the look out for. Sneaky good.

These are a 3 way model that is somewhere between floorstanding and a large format bookshelf that came with it's own stands. For me to bother, they had to have the stands and these did. Overall they are in great shape and will not require much exterior work. The grille fabric could be replaced but that will be a bit more challenging than usual even though it is juts the modern black stuff. Each grill is trimmed on each side nicely with solid wood slats but the fabric is attached underneath them. I am sure they are glued and possibly doweled on so I will hope to get lucky and be able to pop these off once I try. Till then I will just clean them up and see if the few small holes and snags just kinda fade away once clean.

These have the Advent woofer with Vifa tweets and mids. The woofer surrounds are deteriorating and I already have replacements ready to go from Rick Cobb. the baffle is covered with felt and I am not sure if that is for looks or for some sound reasoning. Doesn't matter as I think it is a nice touch either way. I have them hooked up and playing at low volume and even with that they really do sound nice so I am looking forward to replacing the surrounds this weekend.

I have not re-done surrounds on the Advent style woofers. The woofers are now removed and I am ready to dive in so I am looking for any tips specific to this woofer. I watched the Simply Speakers youtube video of doing the surrounds on this and it looks pretty straight forward by leaving the ring on.

Replaced the rotted out surrounds over the weekend an reinstalled the woofers this morning.
These are fantastic sounding speakers folks. Those of you that like Advent would probably really appreciate these with that Advent woofer doing the low end dirty work. Very listenable at all levels. If you find yourself in a position to pick up a pair of these, or the others in the M family (905, 909), I would not hesitate. Pretty nice looking as well. Come on over for a listen!Complete.jpg New surround.jpg

I just had to follow-up on this thread that I had started a couple months back. I am using them the last couple days in my office system connected to my Pioneer SA-9100 integrated (fully recapped) and they are outstanding. I keep coming back to these and am thinking they might be some of the best speakers in my collection. Great at all volumes.

Wanted to pop in to this old thread and report that these have been mine now for a little more than half a year, having bought them from @Drugolf . I already owned DQM-5's that I purchased new, in the original nextel black finish that has held up ok for me. I have always loved those speakers and still do, for what they are. But these are a different level of sound and go deeper, at lower volume than their smaller uncles. I really like them. @Drugolf had refoamed them as noted above, the exteriors were in great shape, and the grilles are in pretty good shape as well. They could be recovered, but nothing all that urgent. Very pleased. :)

Many thanks Blue Shadow!!
I got my 907s and the Carver Receiver 2000 as a graduation gift in my senior year of graduate school in 1988 at United Audio in Chicago.
They have been at my parents. The Receiver was given away. These speakers had surrounds that were decomposed so they were in their basement.
VanL Speakerworks in Chicago just finished redoing the surrounds to the Advent 10 inch woofers. Vifa mids and tweeters still ok.
Crossovers had old parts replaced by John Van L. with nicer parts.
Anyway, they sound great in my listening room driven by HK Citation 7.1 in bridged mode and the latest Cambride DACMagic. Cables were Audioquest and Blue Jeans Canare.
Big soundstage, deep bass, and smooth highs so far. The mids power the sound, in my opinion.
Stands up well when compared to my little LRS driven by Benchmark gear, and big 801s driven by a Levinson stack. All I need are the stands!
Really happy with this revival of my old speakers...Wonderful that you are kind enough to share your knowledge Blue Shadow!

Just wanted to chime in. I have these speakers. Refoamed them a few years ago. They are sonically bliss. Also own the 905 and 909s. These seem to be the sweet spot. If you ever see them. Don’t hesitate.

Still enjoying them. Need to find a carpenter to make the stands, but using something similar off the shelf.
One of my grills is slightly warped, and will fall off when I play at high volumes. Thinking about adding some blue tack to the holes where the grill posts fit.
They are driven by Benchmark amp and image beautifully with good bass and still great sound.
Are you all enjoying yours?
