dbx 14/10 Equalizer - Replacing Battery for the Static RAM

My dbx 14/10 Equalizer stopped recalling saved settings recently.

I had a similar problem a while back with my dbx 20/20 Equalizer.
While the dbx 20/20 has a battery compartment in the back which is easily accessible (for its two AA batteries). The dbx 14/10 does not.

That is because the dbx 14/10 has a 3V lithium battery. The CR2430 coin type lithium battery is located inside the cabinet and was supposed to last for around seven years.

Well, seven years is up :).

The dbx 14/10 cabinet is easy to open up and the lithium battery is easily accessible.
I apologize for not taking any photos of the original battery in place but this post is really an afterthought.

Although the battery is easily accessible by just opening up the cabinet, removing it was not.
The style of the battery was the type that is soldered in place. To desolder it you have to remove two boards to get to the underside of the main board.

Another option of course would be to snip the battery leads and solder a new CR2430 (with leads).
I don't like doing that and I would like an easier battery change in the future so I installed a coin battery holder.
So I did have to remove some boards and disconnect some connectors to do that.

I considered going ahead and replacing electrolytic capacitors while I had things disassembled but it is easy enough to get inside the dbx 14/10 so I decided to do that at a later date.

I did take photos of the new battery holder and battery inside the dbx 14/10. I also decided to use a CR2032 3V battery instead (mainly because that is what I have on hand).

The dbx 14/10 saving of settings is working again. I am glad I didn't have to replace the static RAM IC.

On my dbx 20/20 I did have to replace the RAM ICs and I did replace the electrolytic capacitors on the dbx 20/20 to get it to work again.

I have recapped my dbx 120X Subharmonic Synthesizer as well.

I have a dbx 4Bx Expander that I think could benefit from new electrolytic capacitors so I will likely get around to that. Hopefully this year :).

Wow, nice job. I have a 10/20 love it, but I'm sure it needs recapping. I have never done that work, but am very good with a soldering iron. I was wondering the difficulty level in doing a recap on these..also is there a recap kit that would have all the components to do that job? I know nothing about all those doo dads inside stereo equipment
