Decent MCS Score

I usually have some long winded story how I found something but this time I will just show what I picked up.

A complete MCS system with the 3233 30 WPC receiver with "matrix" fake surround sound...it also has inputs for 2 TTs and treble, mid and bass tone controls. An 8 track deck (meh) a 6502 TT and two 8225 speakers needing woofer foam. All I wanted was the TT actually but the people would not split up the system. I watched it on Facebook for 3 months and asked them again if they would sell the TT. They said NO, but make an offer. So I offered half of what they wanted and they said yes.

This was an old gentleman's system that had passed on and the grandkids were selling it. Everything looks almost perfect with the TT dustcover having the usual broken hinges. The TT belt turned to dust when I pulled the platter off so I ordered one of those already. The receiver was super clean inside and out but the controls had it smothered and it had a blow fuse. A bunch of Deoxit and two hours work and a new fuse did the trick and it has been running all day today. I have no urge to even test the tape deck but all the lights work. The speakers are small 3 ways that will be a perfect way for me to learn how to re foam.

The receiver has a wooden case covered a rosewood pattern vinyl that is in perfect shape. It sounds clean and nice like the bigger 3248 I have, but is a little snazzier looking.

Not a bad "scroe" for $70. I am going to sell my 3248 receiver and keep the 33 for a computer amp and may or may not sell the TT after I see if it works ok.

The 8 track acually looks decent. The inside of the receiver looks scary with all those jumper wires everywhere. It is nicer looking than some of the other MCS receivers with all the buttons and lights. Nice looking TT. Any idea who made that model for them?

Technics made their turntables, that is why I wanted it. The receiver is NEC

The tape deck is a nice one, a recorder as well. There is not a nick or scratch on any of it.

It must of had the original belt on it; the part that did not disintegrate stuck to the platter.

The receiver is actually Arvin, not NEC. And the 3233 is internally the same as the 3235.

Arvin huh? Hmmmm, I did not know that. The 3248/9s are NEC.....interesting. The 33 is flashier than the 48 for sure.
I think all the Taiwan built units are Arvin, but definitely the ones with the push button speaker terminals. There is information about these in other threads if you search for it.

When I got my 48 last year we only talked about the NEC made ones. The 33 actually sell pretty quick on eBay, but I don't ship receivers anymore since they are so heavy. I just do the heavy stuff locally now.

Nice score. Research into who built specific models of MCS equipment has turned into a time consuming side project for some around here. As far a the older silver face it's pretty much a concensus that the Korean models were built by Arvin and the higher end Japan models were NEC. The only TT that I KNOW was built by Technics is the 6700 which a rebadged SL1900. Discussed in another thread we were thinking a 6200TT I picked up was maybe made by BSR.

Do you know for sure that your 6502 was built by Technics? Is that a real wood plinth? My 6200 has a cheap plastic woodgrain plinth. In use for my main setup is a 3125 receiver and a 6700TT. IMO the two most desirable MCS pieces. Sad story I drove quite a ways for a decent deal on a 3253 (NEC) receiver and two days later the FM cracked and sizzled and went out in the middle of a listening session. Drats!! Since I seem to be morphing into an MCS collector maybe I should PM you about that tape deck even though I got rid of all my 8-tracks years ago. Here's a pic of my shelved MCS gear.

I think the 3233 is the very cool looking and love the midrange control and rear matrix features. It's some kind of pre-dolby L-R mix/processor circuitry. I've never set it up that way but someday I hope to and play with it. Here's a pic of my shelved MCS stuff, 32. 20180113_000330.jpg 3223, 3233, and 3253
