Hello everyone!
This is my first post in Audiokarma.
I own a Denon DCD 1420 cd player since November 1989. I really enjoyed it over the years, but now it shows its age - it seems the laser is dying slowly.
The only issue I got with it is that it cannot play a CD whose length exceeds 74 minutes. Over this mark, it skips. I realized this with the first extended CD I used. The only other problem I encountered was a misfunctioning belt in 1994.
I was thinking about replacing this CD player it with a new unit, until I read messages in discussion boards where users said how great the DCD 1420 still sounds after all these years, in comparison with newer players. My player was built in August 1989.
According to messages in some discussion boards, the Sony KSS 210A laser lens, currently available, replaced the original KSS 150A lens (FYI I haven't opened my unit to check which version lens is used).
Before I order a lens and send the player to a service center, I would like to validate a few things :
- Can users of newer versions of the Denon DCD 1420 CD player tell me if they are/have been able to read 80-minute CDs without getting skipping issues? If so, do you know what laser lens model is/was used in your unit?
- Are there people who replaced a KSS 150A lens with a KSS 210A lens in a Denon DCD 1420 - or any other CD player - who can confirm that the latter lens can read 80-minute CDs?
- If so, where did you get the KSS 210A lens? Was it a genuine Sony unit or a generic/OEM version?
Thank you!
