I was considering between these two models, Factory refurbished.:D
If Factory refurbished safe??Reliable?
DENON AVR-1913 7.1ch Home Theater $299 REF.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007R8U5R6
Onkyo - Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2-Ch THX Certified Network A/V Receiver
TX-NR616 also considered.

Which one has better Audyssey EQ?

Think about pioneer also. I like Pioneer better than either of those brands.
I Tried a entry level Pioneer and it sucked lots of ECHO on surround modes , Maybe I would consider Higher level Ones but entry level was garbage.:tears: It also lacked a on screen display so it was like useless. Best-buy also only has a 15 day return policy now... sadly and they don't sell Pioneer Elite.
Do receivers need warrenty??how durable are onkyo/denon

Neither model you listed has pre outs(for 5 or 7.1), and whether you need them depends on the size of your room vs how loud you like it. But since you're budgeting around 3-400, I'd think you wouldn't want the expense of a separate amp.

Denon has a better rep for reliability while Onkyo tends to give better bang for buck. What matters most to the sound for movies is the Audyssey room correction each has, I'd go for the model with the best version of Audyssey.

I have that particular model Onkyo & have been happy with the performance/sound/options. My home theater room is approximately 13 x 20, no problem filling it with sound from the Onkyo.

Hrmm. A friend has a Pioneer he bought on sale at Best Buy for $300, regularly $400. Has a display, Audyssey and no weird echo, at least not on any real surrounds. Those 'jazz club' and 'hall' modes are crap.

I'm not a big believer in eq trickery but to be honest, I was amazed at how much it improved their rig in their room. They have the Energy Classic 5 system and it's usually hard to integrate such small sattelites with a sub but, while it's still far from perfect, I'd actually say it's radically better than just winging it.

Between the Demon and the Onkyo, I'd lean towards the Denon if you want longevity or the Onkyo if you want the biggest bang for the buck right now.

Or you could do, Ennie Meenie, Miney, Moe. I think a new receiver at $300, there probably aren't any radical differences. At that price point, if you want the best 2-channel you can get brand new, I'd think about the Onkyo A9050.

Of course, that doesn't offer echo... echo... echo... echo...

:D

The Denon 1913 has the better Audyssey version, and the THX is not really that important as it's something Onkyo paid to get certification, while Denon makes great stuff without it.

BTW, Pioneer doesn't have Audyssey, they have their own in house room correction system, as does Yamaha.

Interesting. I've never been a big fan of newer Pioneer stuff but if real Audyssey is appreciably more effective than Pioneer's stuff, then real Audyssey must be pretty darn good.

Which denon is newer/better??Denon AVR-E400 7.1($500)B-Buy New or Denon 1913($299)Refurbished ?Audyssey Bronze AVR-E400(worth extra$200 or not?) vs DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics.

Id rather go for cheaper one refurbished if there's not a big difference.

Conventional wisdom on various AV fora - US and Oz IME - is the aim for the model *above* the entry-level - I had a Yamaha RX-V373 and I was advised that I would have been better off spending the extra for the V473. I'm only passing this on because I've seen that advice repeated across a number of brands and over several years. While I wasnt impressed with the Yamaha for music, it was fine with movies, given the price and I didnt have any reliability issues : the same cant be said for entry-level Denon and Onkyo if Amazon is any guide. As always, let your own ears be the judge.

Do not get the Onkyo TX-NR609 they have an issue with the HDMI board. The NR616 is it's replacement and reports are it does not have the HDMI issue.

I have a very late model TX-NR709 which I have had zero trouble with, However the first NR709 I purchased from Crutchfield failed and DC'ed one of my Warfedale W35 speakers. Crutchfield replaced it and told me the late model TX-NRx0x AVR's were OK. The problem is knowing which is a late model NRx0x

I prefer Denon and Marantz to Onkyo and Pioneer (even Pioneer Elite). The Denon and Marantz lineup is also a nice receiver for music duty too. Factory Refurbished is excellent from a reliable dealer with a good warranty. Refurbished can get you nicer for your budget too.

Yes I think Factory refurbished would be just fine. The only weird problem you might run into is these Onkyo AVR's have full internet access. Pandora, Spotify, LastFM, etc are built in. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! it includes V-Tuner which gives you access to 10's of thousand of streaming radio station all over the world. The weirdie is if the person who returned this AVR actually signed into the V-Turner service sometime this registration is not cleared so you can't register this AVR onto V-Tuner, this is rare but it does happen. I absolutely love My NR709 I have never even hooked up the external broadcast antennas.

So that means sometimes you cannot register the AVR? could you just call onkyo and figure it out or not?? Denon is my second choice probably:banana:Onkyo has more stuff, denon does have airplay though.
Sadly The Onkyo I wanted will run out of stock before I can get the buy it
I will have to pay $379 for newer model without THX, or get a Denon lol..
Denon is cheaper$299 Do they need addition $50 LEAF warranty or is that really UN-necessary if your on a budget .

This registration problem only concerns a new V-Tuner account, nothing else, and this is not Onkyo's fault. It is very easy to add Airplay to the Onkyo just purchase an Apple TV this is what I did it gives you air play with all of the bells and whistles fantastic!!! I just PM'ed you about Crutchfield they have big time deals going on new Onkyo AVR's. The TX-NR717 is the replacement for my NR709.

I have an old Onkyo TXSR703 that Ive had since '06, which I upraded from a 700 which I bought in '03. LOVE the 7 series Onkyos. I have an old dlp projector so everything in my system is HD component works great with my 703. If I ever upgrade I will probably try to get a 705 used because I wont use the NR features. My opinion you cant go wrong with the green lights!

Bestbuy told me onkyo are bad AVR they always die, highest failure rate. I do not beilive that at all but I found Marantz old model for a good price too they might have better sound quality is the seller warrented?

Is this Mirantz warrentied from amazon? $50 more than onkyo .$749http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-SR6007-Home-Theater-Receiver/dp/B0081N91BC/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384220935&sr=1-2&keywords=marantz
Is warrenty still good for old verson/model of receiver new one Sr6008 is out already???

I have an older Marantz, an older Onkyo and an older Denon. The Marantz and Onkyo are both older than the Denon - the Onkyo and Marantz are both Dolby Pro Logic, not Dolby Digital while the Denon is Dolby Digital. The Onkyo and the Marantz definitely pump out more power and have a more lively and responsive feeling, even with fairly efficient speakers. The only failure on any of the three is that on the Denon, the headphone jack no longer bypasses the speakers. That's easily fixed if it was a deal-breaker which it is not but it's a testament of the quality of all three brands. At least those in my possession.

Obviously that's anecdotal at best, but it is my experience.

I own two refurbished receivers, a denon avr1611 and a onkyo tx8050 both bought from an authorized dealer. I would not hesitate buying another refurbished receiver both have been reliable. I bought the denon for its reliability because at the time onkyo had trouble with their hdmi boards failing. The onkyo is a stereo receiver with no hdmi (so no hdmi board issues to worry about) but had net capability with spotify, last fm, slacker, rhapsody, napster, pandora and vtuner. Onkyo is the only company with affordable net capability for stereo receivers, that was the deciding reason for purchase. If I was looking for a avr receiver today I would get a denon for its reliability. If buying for music the onkyo tx8050 sounds very nice with net capability and a surprisingly good dac built in.
