Desperate times calls for desperate measures

Along with the bad comes the good...

Today I will be leaving again for the recording studio where I have been doing work a few weeks ago. There I have the honor to listen to some amazing equipment from time to time.

This morning I got a call from the guy that bought the B&Ws telling me how very happy he is about his new toys. That made me smile.

Many years ago I sold my Mac 240 tube amp and I have not gotten over it. Damn this was a great amp for vocals: Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine, Sarah Vaughan. It still hurts!
I wish you the best brother.

years ago(about 23) i had a 1978 malibu classic that had a 350 4 barrel engine and more chrome then you could imagine and also had a mid level stereo that consisted of a sta 820 kenwood speakers and a sansui turntable they were my pride and joy .....my wife and i were expecting our first child and needed money...well i sold both and less then 2 weeks later the buyer wrecked the car because he didnt really know what kind of power he was driving...i almost cried everytime i drove past his house and saw it completely smashed(he wasnt hurt) you do what you have to do to get through rough times ....anyway i now have 3 sons ...all do excellent in school and have never given me any trouble at all....and as for the stereo....about 6 weeks ago i found an old sta 820 for $10 bucks that needed very little work ....

I've had two episodes in my life when I had to sell loved posessions.

One was a Divorce where I had to sell my restored 1970 SS 454 Chevelle. A car that I had always wanted and built i atll myself. It was something I'm sure I would have kept all my life but alas it was not to be. Since then the value of these have gone to the ridicules level so I will probably never own one again.

Second was an extremely rare 1983 Honda CB1100R factory endurance racer. I had to sell because my mother in law came down with brain cancer and my current wife quit her job to take care of her until her death. I bought this bike after looking for one for many years as they were never legal to import into the USA. The one I bought was imported by Malcolm Forbes and ended up being parked in an alley in New York with a tarp over it after his death. One of the luckiest things in my life was to have that bike in my garage. Again, I thought it was something I would own the rest of my life.

sounds more like the attachment than the lack of sound, or the value. what you have to appreciate however, is now you are free to explore more options in the future, and may well end up with something better. the journey could get interesting.

I feel so miserable. I feel like one of my kidneys has gone. I just sold my beloved Onkyo Grand Integra A-G10, i know I'm gonna rot in hell when i die, but it was in a moment of weakness, i just ask for forgiveness, only time can cure my feelings. Damn recession!

Thank you all... its just that it took me such a long time to get a nice set of B&W speakers. At one stage before I owned any B&Ws I thought "hell, I'll never own a set" - you see, I am a huge B&W fanatic (but not of the new china stuff). They are gone now... I see a lot of good secondhand B&W speakers but at prices is really cant afford now.

Loaners? Nope... audiophiles in my part of the country is very few.

I'm a big fan of B&W, too, and I'm sorry to hear that you had to sell them. What model were they?

I had to do this once. In the winter of 1982, I sold my SX-450, BIC 960 with Empire 2000E/III cart, and a pair of Advent /3s to a young kid in college in order to pay for a tank of heating oil. I still miss the BIC and the /3s.

Tom

Hey Tom - I live in Massachusetts and assume you do too. I have a BIC 960 that I'm not doing anything with. It needs a bit of work, but it's yours if you want it.

I have the 601 series 2, and I know what you mean about B&Ws, they are some of the best speakers for the low price. I do think they are special, but I'm not trying to make you feel worse. As others have said, I think you should be thankful that you've had the chance of owning some excellent speakers. Also, B&Ws are quite popular on the used market because they are built so well and last a long while. I'm sure once your financial situation is back to normal, you'll be able to find them again.
