Difference between Grado carts

needle on the record...
Hi All I recently purchased a Grado Prestige Gold cart and it looks like the one on the top. Does anyone know which of the two carts pictured below are the current production?

My cart (top pic) has a date stamp on the bottom that places its manufacture sometime in 2007 (can't remember exactly).

Any info would be welcome!

I think the new one ( last year) is the i version , supposed to be " new and improved " There is a post on here somewhere about the difference and the poster could hear a bit of difference in the i version , not night and day but an improvement . Someone with actual experience may chime in .

Both nice carts I'm sure .

Nice cartridge, Grado actually uses both emblems, My Gold1 has the 'JG' and Silver1 has the single letter 'G'.

The thread ARJohn mentioned may have been this one http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=190064

that would be the thread I was referring to. Just when I was starting to consider Clearaudio this thread pops back up . I have to get a wood body Grado I guess . Will have to wait for the sock fund to build up a bit more is all :sigh:

Sorry to complicate your plans for the Clearaudio but you brought it up. :D

But seriously, to me the Grados are kinda addictive, I go for stretches wanting to hear nothing else for months. Haven't heard a wood body Grado or the Clearaudio but sure would like to after reading all the positive comments.

I've had both a Grado Ref Platinum and a wood-bodied Clearaudio Arum Beta Mk II. The Grado is a nice cartridge with the lush, warm mids and upper bass that you always hear so much about. The wood-bodied Arum Beta gets a touch of that warmth, but has cleaner treble and a more natural top-to-bottom presentation.

I do wonder if the Ref Sonata wouldn't be a better comparison to the Arum Beta.

I have a Grado Gold1 for awhile. I had high expectations from it, but it failed to impress me. I don't know why...I didn't notice anything special. When I use Roksan Corus or Shure M97XE I'm struck by the differences and the special feel these cartridges have but with the Gold...nothing...It seems to be just a correct sounding cartridge, nothing more, nothing less. To me, of course.
