Differences between AR-XA, XB, and The AR Turntable?

I'll always take advantage of the opportunity to show off that Walnut base that AVFan made:

(One day I'll get around to polishing the platter...)

Very kind of you Wes. I bet it sings with Marc's refinements.

I'll check the measurements this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion Marc.

I was excited for the find, however i think this tx id beyond the scope of my abilities. Is there somebody in southern california that can handle this thing? I also have a Dual 1019 in a gorgeous walnut plinth.... both need work (and out of my league). Which shoud i keep and who can i turn to?

I almost scored an XA for no money recently. Emphasis on almost. It’ll happen eventually and I’ll be back asking numerous questions.

I enjoyed an XB for many years, my first real "hifi" turntable. I replaced the arm with a Grace 707, which took it to another level. If you keep the original arm there are replacement 3rd-party headshells available online.

There are a couple of detailed websites on modding the AR turntables to take them to the next levels. Replacing the plinth is worthwhile and recommended, so don't worry if you get an AR with an aged plinth. I'm disappointed that I had my AR pre-internet, so didn't have access to this info, I would have been interested to improve it further.
