Differences between the alpha series?

I have done a bit of research and it seems there is a (small) consensus that the alpha series are the best among the more standard integrated amps (not including the super high end/special editions). My question is, should I seek out one with the 'extra designation' (a few people raved about this one)? or is a plain alpha or i series about as good?

Thanks

Any differences you would here would definitely depend on the quality of the speakers you are using. I also suspect that any members of the alpha series would sound about the same. This also goes for the MOS series. Though a late model, the NRA is not the most expensive integrated in these auctions. My 2cents.

IMHO, the further you extend up the range, the better the performance.

Dad and I have the AU-X701 (equivalent of AU-alpha 607i), AU-X711 (roughly the equivalent of the AU-alpha 607L) and the AU-alpha607MRX. The 607MRX is the best, but the other two are also very fine amps.

As time progressed, Sansui refined the topology of these amps, and played around with the voicing via component changes and subtle circuit tweaks. Many feel that the MR/MRX series are the best, but I definitely encourage you to try any of the alphas as they are just lovely, lovely amps.

Pete, are you going to sell any of this amplifier near future?? I just sent my Sansui AU X911DG for service.

I don't think so Raj. They all sound just superb!

Technically only the AU-X701 is mine. The other two amps were acquired by Dad aka skippy124, and shortly after they arrived I 'borrowed' them. That was some time ago! Shhhhhhh... don't remind him! ;)
