Do you buy albums off the bay?

Rockin and Rollin....
Does anyone else here take the chance and buy albums from e-bay?

I have been for a while now, and over all have been pretty impressed. I'd say I've gotten maybe 75 or so from e-bay.

If I can get a lot for a decent price I will.. but I have been looking for hard to find singles there, and have been pretty impressed with what I can find, and the condition.

There have only been a couple of albums from all I have bought that I didn't feel were what they claimed condition wise, but they were still very acceptable, and I would have picked them up at a thrift or record store had I seen them...

I even had one seller leave me feed back before I ever got the album.. I just got the album today matter of fact, and it was in STELLAR shape. Better than described, and he even removed the album from the jacket before shipping to avoid ring wear... pretty SWEET.. and it was a very hard to find German pressing of a CCCP single..

Curious to hear if others have experienced as good of luck, or if they even risk buying albums from the bay?

In years past quite a few, not so much anymore. Ebay's become too slippery for my taste. Still, there are approximately a half dozen sellers I would trust, were I to reconsider acquiring vinyl via ebay.

I've only bought one and that was about a month ago. It was a brand new sealed Dream Theater LP and it came in perfectly. But I've never bought anything used, though.

I have gotten one or two. I only buy from ebay if I cannot find the album locally. For the most part I have gotten good stuff.

I bought a few 60's records last year off Ebay, one deal was as described and one was kind of a rip-off - condition worse than described.

I've had such good luck finding records at garage sales, that I don't expect to be buying more from Ebay.

Cheers, Snade

I have to agree for a single album, even at 4 or $5 it is high for an album, but that is also pretty much what the postage on the box shows. I do take that part into account of the price I will pay. Like I said, when buying a single, it's for some really hard to find stuff..

I've found when buyin lots, shipping prices aren't too bad, and if you can get the lot for a cheap enough price, it isn't bad, and beats the times I spent at the thrift, and on gas driving around..

I think it all pretty much comes out in the wash..

Two in 3 years. I can't afford to buy the stuff I like on Ebay. And there are records that I like that I have bought at record shows for much less then Ebay prices. Many have low book values, but sell on Ebay for much more than book value. I did get a great deal on a NM Quad Copy of Miles Davis Bitches Brew. Shipped $20. I saw a poor condition copy a week later sell for $50.

For hard-to-find, "must have" LPs, I sometimes have to resort to eBay. UK, Japanese, and German pressings mostly. Generally, these do not make their way into the US.

I try to stick with sellers I have used before. Other than that, I am patient. Most LPs I am looking for eventually end up at my used LP shops.

Only sealed new albums. I do it for the price and usually it is the only place I can find them.

i've bought a few from ebay. most of them came in the condition as described or better, only 1 was a disappointment. 1 never showed up but the seller refunded the sales price and shipping. so?...

i'd do it again if I'm looking for a specific title that I can't seem to source locally at thrifts or yard sales

I've had great luck buying lps on ebay.

I say luck because I've taken some gambles on sellers who obviously don't know lps very well, but with rare exceptions they have been good or the sellers make it right if not.

Because of shipping I've taken to buying more lots. I need these like a hole in the head though.

My experience has been hit and miss.

Just about all sellers who bother to "Grade" the LPs call them NM or NM-. I have sent back a half dozen LPs that were Poor described as NM-.

But sometimes you get a deal. I bought a MINT copy of Love Over Gold the other day for ~8 including shipping.

Others that good have come at a price of $18-$26 including shipping.

I have bought some stuff on ebay and usually it is described better than it is in my experience. I cant tell you how many VG+ or NM stuff I have bought that weren't even close. I usually find better condition stuff at the thrift. I must say that my used record store has the same or better prices than ebay and I can listen to the record before I buy it so since I started going there I am done with ebay for records.

Not sure how many has to be over 50 so far. Based on the prices I'm doing very well. I have gotten maybe 4-5 that haven't been up to my std. But if I average it out based on price I'm quite happy.

Good luck so far with vinyl off ebay....some of the dust covers were toast - and obvious in the pics, but the vinyl has always been in great condition or as described. I usually just go for buying lots [ group of lps ] of a particular artist, but my most recent purchase was a sealed copy of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind Soundtrack.

I've bought them off the bay with good luck exept once.We left home one day and didn't know the mail man left a box in the old truck that only sits unless we must pull the horse trailer.A week goes by thinking they aint came yet, then I go to move the truck to mow where it sits and there they are in the seat,in a thin ''paper'' box.Middle of summer so ''warp city''. Next time, I'll make sure somebody will be home all day the week of buying them.:sigh:
