Does anyone make a new affordabe 10" or 12" three way speaker.

87 db SPL so not super efficient. Claimed frequency response down to 35 Hz is good if it's accurate at -3db.

Triangle Borea BR03 bookshelves are 90db SPL and play down to 45 Hz. Nice punchy bass and incredible mids and highs. $350

I was going to recommend the Borea BR03's. They replaced my Dynaco A-35's and even though it's a 6" woofer vs. a 10" woofer, the Triangles deliver more/better sound in just about every respect.

There used to be a forum here called Barter Town. You'd donate $25 to AK and you'd get access to the secret forums. But I can't find any way to give AK money anymore. You could post an ad and find someone local to get you something at your price point or free. All of us have piles of extra speakers we'd be willing to part with. Barter Town used to be worthy, if you can find it.

Still a thing. On mobile devices it's in the drop down menu on the upper left. Not sure about a computer as I really don't access forums on them.

Update, first of all thanks for all the ideas and input, I think I have with your help decided on what I really want. I just need to be patient, I really would like something in nice condition in a old school kind of speaker, something close to this size, 24x14x12 / 25x15x12, you get the idea. Does not need to be top of the line just has to be working, do not want to get into foam issues or capacitor replacement issues. I am just not good at it. I tried one time to solder a headshell lead, to make a long story short I now need a new headshell to get that TT working again and those are hard to find and very pricey, holy crap :). As for the speakers a 10" 2 or 3 way a 12" 3 way or something like that.
My budget sucks for now, that's why I am struggling as well to find something. I really need to find someone who would trade on FB or CL, I get close to a deal for one of my vintage receivers and then it falls through. I would love to find someone with some old Verit in the Veneer Cabinets or even the Wald Sound Ampex Series, I know there not the best, but they would be fun and if in ok condition look nice. I have seen some DLK and some Pioneers, but the Cabinets are questionable and the Pioneers the Drivers look terrible. I wish I had not sold my Sansui 2500's they looked beautiful and sounded good enough for me. Still looking and still open to ideas. Again thanks for all the input. It is a shame you can not look at barter town for free and then if you want to buy make a donation. Do not want to cough up $25.00 and then find nothing. A real shame those Allegro 4000 got sold they looked really nice and seem to get really good reviews and he was open to a trade, just took too long on the back and forth on FB, Oh well, Chris / Flaps

Any one know if these look original ? Interesting shape to cabinet for a bigger speakers with the rounded corners. Odd how the top driver is so much different looking to the lower driver, almost if someone changed something ? DCM unlike the ones I know of

...I appreciate all the ideas but my budget is trade locally best choice or max $400 a pair for something.

Too bad you aren't local to me. I'd send you home with something you'd like for half your budget or even less.

Keep looking, something will turn up. The thing about buying used is that sometimes you don't have to pay anywhere near the average going rate.

I've never heard the Allegro 4000s, but I've had a few pairs of the 3000s and they were pretty decent. In fact, they sounded great for the prices I paid, $5-$20.

I could be wrong, but it seems like the better vintage is on the East Coast, I find things here off and on, but usually there kind of beat with weird issues or being sold by someone with no clue. I found a pair of Criterion 4X in pretty nice condition, but the guys price is nutters and after some back and forth he tells me the tweeter does not work, he has no idea, since the speaker has a tweeter and super tweeter. I offered a trade originally before I knew the tweeter or tweeters did not work, then that deal went south. He also barely speaks English which of course is what I do speak, Crazy world these days.

A brief internet search indicates to me they look original. Listen to them first. If they sound good to you and are reasonably cheap why not. However I'm not sure I'd go much more than 50 for them, maybe 100.

You never know what you might find at garage sales. I picked up a pair of Pioneer CS-K-535 speakers last week that I didn't need. But at 10 bucks, I couldn't pass them up. 3 way, 150 watts. Sound good.

Those are the correct drivers for a DCM KX10 Series II. I had a pair and they are great for loud rock and roll- powerful bass with "in your face" treble. The tweeters can be harsh, but paired with the right amp they are decent. I think they were designed to compete with Cerwin Vega as they had a very similar presentation.

So what genre of music do you listen to? I've not heard those speakers. They have a look that says to me, hard rock, rap or headbanger music. Not judging. Just don't think they would be articulate for fine detail. If that's what your after.

Don't know about new, but there are a ton of affordable speakers out there with big drivers and big sound that can fill a room. One of my favorites is the Avid 102a. I grabbed a pair for $60 - very nice sounding two way with a 10" woofer in a fairly large cabinet. They are under appreciated, therefore inexpensive. Some Dahlquist m905's near me for $60 as well - I heard them years ago and they would be nice. Just be patient and keep an eye out.

MB Quart. Nice accurate german speakers. $350

Klipsh Synergy F2. Decent speakers - should fill a room nicely. $180

Def Tech Studio Monitor 350 - big sound for small speakers. $125

Tannoy F4 mercury - $250

Def Tech Mythos 4. Very sleek towers for $300

All those prices are asking, so you can probably save off of that.

OK none of those fit you big box requirement - though most are pretty big. Here is a Klipsch KG4 for $350. 16x11x28

EDIT: Finished reading through and saw the KG4's already recommended. You could probably get them for $275 or $300 since they have been out there for a while. Under your budget.

Love the Avids, I am sure something will come up, for now it would be a trade deal, which may still work. Also will have money if a few things I am selling that I do not need really, finally sell, then I can do a cash deal for something. All the input has been great, thanks too everyone.

Holy moly, I forgot I had these, was digging through my walk in closet, finding stuff to sell on Ebay, that I do not need anymore, lots of odds and ends toys and things and what do I find at the back, these babies. Really good looking and in really overall nice condition. I remember now I worked on them 10 years ago, and could not figure out the issue, I even took them to a guy that works from home and was recommended by another well off Hifi collector, he had them for weeks, said he fixed them and of course he did not.
I even found a review where a younger fella that expected them to sound so so, was shocked at the quality of sound they offered. I put some pics and info below. I need to find someone in Vegas who knows about crossovers, that has to be the issue with these and it's just more than I can figure out. There also beyond my ability to move these days, so I need to locate a look at em here guy, wish me luck.
