Used to think 60 Minutes was a great program, but I haven't watched it in years. Andy Rooney still hangin' in there?

I work at a CBS station and have been getting info all day. Hewitt was one amazing inovator. Created many of the things we take for granted in television news coverage today. The "Super" (the words on the screen) "B Roll" (video rolling over a reporter talking) and, of course, the magazine style news program. One heck of a television marketing pro too. I don't know why this one stuck with me for so many years, but one 60 Minutes promo said "Who's watching the border patrol while the border patrol is watching the border?" Don wrote all the 60 Minutes promos. Amazing guy.

I always enjoyed when HE came on-All too infrequent, I thought he had a very good "screen presence", & delivery. I remember seeing a "quarrel" he & Mike Wallace had, Mike wanted things ONE way, & Hewitt wanted 'em the OTHER...Think Hewitt won out, but you got the feeling Wallace won his share, too...And they had been workin' together so long, & knew each other so well, & obviously had great respect for each other.

Just saw on TV that 60 Minutes, this Sunday will devote the entire show to Don Hewitt.
You can bet I'll be watching....................................Oh and as for Andy Rooney --Yep he is still there and I wish he trim his overly bushy eyebrows.

I enjoyed watching 60 Minutes, although I haven't seen it in quite a few years now. Don Hewitt definitely was involved in creating a landmark news program.

60 Minutes also opened my eyes in another manner. They were responsible for me beginning to question the things that I see on television news, that being the result of their story on unintended acceleration in Audis in the early '80s. I'm highly critical of the news I watch or read now.

With that in mind, the vast majority of what 60 Minutes did was legit, and Mr. Hewitt deserves credit for his work there.

RIP

John
