I've always liked that catch phrase from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I won a rare Beth Orton CD two weeks ago. I asked the seller three times before I heard back about having it insured. He said in a weird way "ok." So I sent the funds via PayPal. In retrospect I was a little over anxious. A week and half goes by I hear or see nothing. I ask for a tracking number and get one, two days later. I checked it's status and it's somewhere in Shanghai, China...WTF?! It was suppose to have been shipped from Wellington, New Zealand. I'm starting to think, I just bought a very expensive fake.
Then last night I get a message from eBay. Saying in short "This (seller's) account was recently found to have been accessed by an unauthorized third party..." eBay provided "what to do" information and links to law enforcement agencies. I check eBay and there is nothing left of this transaction and the seller has vanished. Swell I've just got screwed. Then I started getting worried about the Grado headphones, it's been awhile too. The seller wasn't very communicative either. He said he'd get me a tracking number once he got back into town, which I never got.
Any ways I started a Paypal claim late last night on the CD. I had all the documentation and correspondence so I wasn't too worried. Just a major pain in the ass inconvenience.
I get home from the office and I catch the mail man as he is leaving. He says "I needed your signature." He has a couple of things for me. A medium sized sorta flat box and a package scribbled in Chinese the size of a CD! I get all excited and when I get to the front door I find two more packages sitting at the door!
So I'm now sitting here sipping on a Pyramid Haywire, Hefeweizen with my just delivered new Grado headphones listening to the Superpinkymandy CD, checking out the parts for the DIY Starving Student Tube Headphone amp, including some nifty hard to find Sylvania 19J6 tubes that also arrived.
Don't Panic
