Edit..

I had forgotten about it. Well it will be shipping priority mail. Can't WAIT:yippy:

Mine didn't come today.:tears: Ordered from Acoustic Sounds. Looks like they only got 350 sets, the rest will be mailed in June:saywhat:. Intend to play the records through a McIntosh C2200 and MC275 from my Technics SL-1200 M3D (to keep it on topic):thmbsp:.

They are coming though -- at least it's better than reading how the set has been delayed for 3 another months.

Elusive Disc for instance did not receive all their allocations -- they are sending out what they have.

I ordered from MD, not sure if they are in that situation -- but, I'll be looking everyday. Finally!!!:thmbsp:

Having had this set on order for 12 months, I'm pleased to see that Acoustic Sounds finally appears to have shipped it to me.

I received mine yesterday; #561 of 12500. I have not opened it as of yet because I don't have my vinyl rig setup. It's nice to finally be able to hold it in my hands (that's what she said) after all this time.

Got mine just yesterday (#1401) and put it to play.

I was actually more than a little disappointed with the re-mastering effort. :( That--coupled with the audio level (which appeared to be set to the same low level as what was the "norm" when the records were first pressed) forced me to increase the volume by at least 10 dB (compared to when listening to other records). But even with the extra volume boost it wasn't enough to give this music the proper punch that it deserves.

Luckily I have a fairly decent analog 5ch surround mode which in all honesty was required in order to properly enjoy them. The bass was pretty much non-existing without it, and the presentation was completely flat.

There was also a perceivable harshness in the upper frequency range; especially on the their debut release. I know the master material is probably not all that great in some parts, but considering the substantial remastering efforts I've grown accustomed to with records from the 50s (both classical & jazz reissues); I honestly expected more.

To be fair, I put in some first edition Pink Floyd albums ("Relics" & "Meddle"), and they also appeared to have a higher fidelity, and more importantly, a better volume level than these vinyls.

Any one else had the opportunity to properly evaluate this box set?

btw., the set itself is beautifully made and oozes quality, but I wish had better news about the sound (maybe I am nitpicking?)

There is a raging debate about the sound quality of this set over at the Steve Hoffman forum. Opinions are all over the place.

I haven't listened to mine yet.

Well the Hoffmanites always come down hard on anything that Steve hasn't remastered, so I don't take their opinions with even a grain of salt anymore.

Though I am a big fan of Steve's work, these are some of the best sounding rock LP's I've ever heard and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Two of the guys on our staff have the original LP's (with first edition stampers) as well as the DCC and MoFi pressings and we all agree that these are far superior in every way.

Don't know what you are listening to your records on, but we were all pretty blown away at how good they were.

Well the debate over at Steve Hoffman's site is not only sound BUT also the quality (or lack of) of the Vinyl and the sleeve's.
A lot of people seem to have recieved scuffed sleeve's, with seam splits ( i did) and vinyl that has scuffs, scratches and defects that effect the quality of listening.

I am glad I have all the releases on vinyl already so I was not tempted to buy this one.

If you want a better sounding Doors s/t in mono than the new box set, be prepared to fork over some serious cash.

Of course, we can debate which Doors s/t is better. Monaural or S-T-E-R-E-O?

The one thing I don't have from the boxed set is the mono copy of the first album.

I agree that the folks on the SH site are, in the main, Steve groupies. Not entirely without reason; I am very impressed with his mastering ability.

Many reviewers whose opinions I trust have reviewed this box favorably, so I'm looking forward to giving it a listen soon.
