Drats! My 600 dropped a channel tonight.

I don't know what happened, yesterday all was fine until I did a bit of rearranging. Had everything unplugged and plugged back in. I never turned it on until tonight and found the right channel missing. I checked all connections. Tried different speaker and speaker wire. All sources, all speaker sets A, B, and C. Even popped the lid looking for a blown fuse, No such fuse exists. I saw one fuse by a relay but that can't be it, looking for a pair, one for each channel, no luck.

Well if there is no easy fix it will be parked and replaced with a back-up Pioneer SX-780. Not the same I know. I wish there was an easy fix. I don't have the time or money to fix this if it's too involved. I'll just move it along and find something else. Just venting.

Maybe not the disaster you think it might be. Could be a dirty switch somewhere. Try cycling all you controls. Also, clean them.

Try changing the mode switch to various positions. I have one or two of my 600's that will drop a channel in the pre-amp/tone-amp sections. The power amp sections are fine though.

Try L+R or Reverse and see if your sound comes back. Also try flipping the normal/separate switch on the back a few times. It can get dirty too.

It could also be something in the power supply section. Before recapping the one, I would lose one of the channels until the volume was cranked rather high. Then it would come back for a little while.

Thanks, I haven't tried the normal/separate switch on the back yet.

If the switch has no effect, you can plug a controllable source into the power in jacks and see if both channels still work. This will tell you if the problem is in the pre-amp or power amp sections.

My Attentuator switch gets dirty giving a similar problem, opening it up and spraying Deoxit helps. Seems to happen on my other Kenwoods too....

Good plan of action here.

I might also mention that the Model 600 is a bit unique in that there are separate split supplies for each preamp channel, so it is entirely possible that one preamp channel can quit while the other continues to function.

There are only two fuses in most 600's: the mains fuse on the back panel, and a second fuse on the relay board, which is for the pilot lamp alone.

Okay now. I hooked it back up for some further testing and its working. Guess its time for some deoxit treatment on all the controls. So far I have not been able to reproduce the symptom by manipulating switches. If I do find the culprit I will post it here.

Same here I think. KR 6170. Left channel was "fading?" Flipped the normal seperate /switch and it is back. Long way to go on the learning curve and I really appreciate the help from everybody here.
