DSP-A1 vs ???

Got a black DSP-A1 in good condition in trade for a tape deck. I’m currently running a Sony STR-DA3100ES for surround duty, but was wondering if the Yamaha would be an upgrade even if it’s older? I run all my sources into the 4K tv and then route DTS back via optical to the receiver for sounds. I also only employ a 5.1 setup but was intrigued by the quasi 7.1 the Yamaha has

It appears that your Sony receiver is capable of running equal power to 7 channels. Also, the Sony 7 channel configuration is more in line with the standard, which consists of the 3 fronts, the 2 surrounds, and the 2 surrounds back. The Yamaha, which I used to own, runs equal power to 5 channels and a reduced power to the two front effects channels. I never employed the two effects channels when I owned the DSP-A1, since none of the DVDs I owned supported this particular codec, but more importantly the wife did not want speakers hanging from the front wall.
