Heard good things about Dual TT

Looking at these two.models.wondering whixh way to go

The 1266 has a Audio Technica cart, not sure about the 1229 but anticipating replacing the cart anyways

Which model is better? Also when i test drive these what should i pay special attention to with these models?

Tnx

1229 all the way! Idler goodness. The 1229 is subjectively considered one of, if not the best, offerings from Dual ever.

OK, that makes more sense. All else being equal, the 1229 is a bit better than the 1226. Not by an enormous amount, though...and the cartridge on the other one could make a difference.

True dat on the cart, but the 1229 is significantly better with a larger, heavier platter and better tonearm. It was TOTL at the time and given price parity and similar condition, I'd take the 1229 everyday.

FWIW, since the 1229 was TOTL, they often wore better carts. I've found more than one 1219/1229 wearing Shure V15s and they often were worth the asking price for the table themselves, even with broken or missing styli.

It appears the 1229 is sold

The seller of the 1226 wants 125.00, seems a little on the high side?

A 1257 just came available with a Pickering cart for about half the price

Later model, belt drive instead of rim drive, but decent. Yes, $125 is way too much, IMHO. $60 for a working 1257 isn't bad, especially if that cart is decent.

BUT - be aware that you must have the adapter to mount standard cartridges (which is certainly there if it has a Pickering already), and if it ever breaks (not unlikely) you'll have a heck of a time finding one.

NOTE: This TT doesn't use the notorious 269-611 adapter; it's one generation back - that adapter (261-865) CAN be found, but it isn't easy.

Go for a 1219 or 1229. Twelve inch platter versus a ten. If want a 10 in platter go for a 1009SK or a 1019. They are tanks. Much heavier than a 1226. Sound great too. Have a 1009 without an initial after it. Duals first. Sound great, well made. Lacks a cue and antiskate. Have one on my shop system.

Have a 1229 and 1219. Love the sound on them. Shure carts on both M91ED and M55 respectively. May be selling my 1219 to raise funds for a Fisher 400 being sold by an Aker.

Good luck in your search. Stay away from a 1257. Too much plastic.
