Hi all,
I have a chance to grab a Dual CS 505-1 for 40.00 that needs a needle. guy says otherwise everything works. cosmetically very nice. thing is I know nothing about these TT and not even sure if it has a cartridge. I'm on a very limited budget and was wondering if I should grab it or let it go. what do you guys think it would cost to get a new cartridge on the cheap side, Thanks for any info

Excellent starter turntable. They have a spring downforce adjustment instead of relying on gravity. The practical upshot of which, is that they will play on their sides. Here's one I did earlier :

If it has the Ortofon ULM cartridge, just get a new stylus for it, don't bother changing it.

It can be hard to find the ULM shell if it is missing. Personally, if it is missing, I would pass. Its not one of my favourite duals, but if everything is working and you only need a stylus, for the money, it is good. If the dust cover is in decent shape with no cracks or major scratches, you could double your money right there!
