My old trusty Dual CS-508 looks like it's now going into retirement .
Today when it first wouldn't turn on ( dirty switch ) and the adapter for the cart went south I switched it out for a Harmon Kardon T-20 that was sitting in the wings .
I guess being in service since 1983 I've gotten my money's worth .

Gonna take me some time to get use to the new to me TT . Used my last new Grado 3E+ ......with zero hum .

The HK seems to be a nice table , tracks very well .

Those T20, 40, 60 TT's were awesome. Good looks and solid performance. Always wanted one but never had the opportunity to buy one. Hard to find these days.

Don't know much about the HK but the Duals, while good tables can be a PITA.
The design of the cartridge holder has always puzzled me.
I'm running a 1218 and know from experience that any mishap when changing cartridges and pulling too hard on the wires can put you right out of business.

Great that you had a backup!!!!!!!

I never liked the adapter's set up and this time the little screw would not come out !
You know how you have to tighten it from time to time , guess it finally stripped out .

Got pissed and just hooked up the HK , and it does sound pretty good . Have the cap set @ 100uf with the new Grado .

Then about 1am I finished f**kn with the Dual . Think I fixed it for now . Found a little bit bigger and longer screw that will tighten up . No 60 cycle hum and both channels are working . But I'm not about to put it back in service till I've run a few LP's through a couple of cycles.

I really like the Dual for performance but the HK might stay once the operation of the lift arm sinks in . kept forgetting that after it returns the arm is down and needs to be lifted back up before moving over LP .......
Plus miss the strobe on the Dual .

I had a CS 508 which came to me with the 1/2" adapter and an Ortofon OM10. I bought an original Ortofon TKS 50E ULM cartridge and it not only sounded and tracked better but I stopped having problems with intermittent contact. I have to say that the flimsy cart attachment method, laughably poor quality wiring and lightweight platter were the weak points of this turntable, which otherwise was pretty good for its range. I sold the turntable but accidentally kept the adapter and extra counterweight. If you want it, PM me.
