Dynaco A 25 Small But Impressive

Steve, aka Pio1980, sent me a pair for free. Both woofers had basket sag and buzzed, and one tweeter was bad. Still, I could see what all the fuss was about. They sit in my garage, doing nothing. I should pass that karma forward, i feel.

Glad you're enjoying these, and I too have some Imperial 6's. Big shoes to fill, wouldn't you say?

The Imperials are just so different. For sure the Imperials are the ass kickers of the pair. Bass is deeper but not quite as tight as the Dynacos. The Marantz are more sensitive and I live their sound......but for such little shits, the Dynacos sure are impressive. They blow my KLH 17s out of the water.

I just tried them with my Fisher CA 800 with 100 wpc. Not a huge difference from the 60 wpc of the Pioneer but I did not want to push them too hard. They can take a decent amount of power for sure.

For what it is worth here is a 1969 review in Stereophile magazine of the then brand new A-25. Stereophile was known for not pulling punches especially on speakers which makes this review quite surprising.

'Interesting read - thanks for posting that link. My A-25's get rotated regularly into a second system. I've tried them with several low/mid powered receivers and integrated amps and find they sound particularly nice with a Pioneer SX-828.

Ahh, ok. What is the difference?

As far as I know, the SEAS and Scanspeak drivers used in the A-25 were built to the same specifications so they should sound very similar if not identical. The Scanspeak A-25s appear to be less common and the ones I've seen, including the pair that I own, have the aperiodic vent located above the tweeter instead of below the woofer.

Interesting! Thanks! Are your mirrored?

No, mine aren't mirrored. My tweeters are both to the right of center.

Interesting. I wonder if the slight difference in color is because of the mirror or because of a different production date. And that the have different tweeters complicates the question even more. Anyway they both sound awesome to my ears. When my wife got home from work I turned up the music and asked if she like it and she said "yes". I said those are the small ones on top of the Pioneers...........color her shocked.
