I tested these Dynaco A-50 speakers on three different systems today.
#1- Adcom GTP450 pre/GFA 5500 amp
#2- Tecniques pre/amp forgot model # (I will edit this part later)see pic.
#3- Ampex tube pre amp/Ampex 15 watt mono blocks-see pic
Shure CD player on all sytems.
The speakers sound exellent with all three systems.
#3-The Ampex system had crystal highs and great female voice reproduction Van Morison's voice was perfect as well. They have more lower end than I expected with a tube amp.
#2- The Tecniques system was by far my favorite with the A-50's Lacking a little clarity on the mid and highs compared to the tube set up. But a much fuller sound all around. Voice reproduction once again was amazing. A+
#1-The Adcom system I use for all new arrivals. There are few speakers the Adcom doesnt represent well. I felt the Tecniques system came closer clarity wise to the tube set up. Thoug the Adcom seemed very easy to listen to for long periods of time.
This forum thing is all new to me and I wish I could spell. Just my 2 cents.

Very cool, wish I still had my A-50's (gone in a divorce 20-odd years ago) - excellent vocal reproduction for sure.

Those look killer, and I bet they sound killer, too. I like your amp stand...what is that, a poor little sansui speaker? How pitiful it must feel, lattice grill and all.

If I keep feeding my A-25s more watts, maybe they'll fatten up and become A-50s.

I've got 2 pairs of these except that mine are 3 way. The mid is a 6" by 4" and was apparently included as some sort of tax break ??? At least that's what I've been told.
Best speakers I've ever had...clean tight bass and the mids and highs aren't shabby at all. I love 'em. Boy that mid is SO ugly though and I run them naked.
:D

The stand for the A-50's is interesting to me. Does it tilt them back slightly?

A-50's have a reputation for a lot of bass, sometimes too much, and the stand would help moderate it. My experience with A-50's is that there are only a couple recordings that give problems with overly bass-y response. Otherwise, I've thought they were generally quite musical speakers.

I used to sit transfixed by a recording of Beethoven's Fourth Symphony on a Deutsche Gramophone CD playing through my A-50's.

Dynaco claimed that the A-50 was tonally the same as the A-25, and at frequencies higher than bass, I could believe it.

The dynaco A-50 are some bad a** dudes. Last winter I posted a thread about how I felt my A-50-s were warming up a cold garage. They move so much air that you feel the "bass breeze' passing by. I would look around the room to find sarah vaugh every time I put her lp on. Just a footnote, my sarah vaugh cd does not offer the same experience.
