Dynaco PAS 3 issue...maybe

Picked this up a couple of months ago. First thing I noticed is the volume doesnt really "come on" until 10:00 0r so. Right around halfway it jumps and then shortly after it distorts. This happens with my Magnavox 8600 with the DG mods but not with my 8802...also with DG upgrades. Is this a common thing or is there an issue with the pre?

I recently changed the volume control on my PAS. It was doing all kinds of weird volume issues like one side louder than the other. I put in a Alps which works really good. Of course there is no tap for a loudness switch. You can do DC resistance tests with the VC out of circuit.
