yes that is a classic super amp. I would be interested in it if you don't want it. would pay price plus shipping

I might have sent an email, but I looked here first and saw that you were on it to get this unit. Good Luck.

I don't mind. He got back to me that several people were interested. I smell bidding war and I won't be a part of that. I should be picking up a Crest Audio VS1500 and a Tascam CD recorder tomorrow. I will most likely use the Crest as a sub amp and replace an old Hitachi.
The Dynaco would have been nice, but I doubt I will get it.

Saw this ad last night and sent an e-mail about 1 hr after it went up. Just got a reply today, and yes, I smell a bidding war also. Not what C/L is supposed to be. Shame, since I could probably walk to his house it's so close.

price is ok :)
but when i see the obvious "repairs" i'd expect some more surprise :)

I got one reply with the same duct tape explanation. I can understand it, but would fix it correctly. Sounds like he has had the amp since new by this: "Yeah, I got it with the optional VU's. The relay is the one which delays connecting the speakers until the power supply settles down on power up. (no 400 watt THUMP ya know)"

Recieved a call from him tonight, and am picking it up tomorrow. I give him credit, he said i was first in-first out, so maybe there is hope for C/L ethic's after all. I would have bet the ranch he was going the auction route.
Apparently it has been used as a band amp for a couple of years, so i'm sure it has been ridden hard and put away wet. Having built a few Hafler Amps myelf in the 70's (Dynco->Hafler->Carver) I am looking forward to this as a nice project amp.
Kenwood KT7500..Kenwwod KA7300 as a Pre..Dynaco 400..Vandersteen 2C..I'M getting there

T Henry,

Welcome to the neighborhood! You'll find a wonderful group of AKers in the Philly area. We're always glad to see a kindred spirit (wives would say a fellow addict). If we can help, just let us know.

Hank

Thx Hammer, aprreciate it.
Had a real "six degrees of seperation" today. Reading up on Dynaco history a bit more, and how it was started by David Hafler and Ed Laurent etc, when a strange idea hits me. So I leave my office and walk down the hall a bit, and into...Ed Laurent's office...yup his son. I never put the connection together before. He asked me if I wanted to see the original prototype Stereo 400, or any of the original prototype tube amps!!
Think I might have a line any needed parts now...lol

Hey T-Henry,

I have a few of those Square Fuseholders and caps, let me know if you need some, might have other colors other than Black, will have to check.

Also, it would be really great if you could start a new thread for any contact, information, and photos you could provide with Ed Laurent's Son (Jr.?). Ed Sr. and David Hafler were the main principals at Dynaco.

A Thread highlighting Dynaco and Ed Laurent as well as providing some glimpses into the prototypes of some of the most beloved amps and preamps of modern electronics would be a great tribute and of a lot of initerest here at AK.

Regards,

Bart

Thx for the offer on the fuse caps, but i think i am going to being doing a lot of major work on this piece before i get to the fuse caps. Looks like the PC-30 power board was was tosted at some point; some scorching and lots of new solder (guessing trying to put some lifted traces back down). And a SERIOUS cleaning.
As far as JR. goes, I think it would be extremely fun to get some pics/insights up on here. I will talk to him and see how he feels; respecting his privacy and all that sort of thing. Hopefully he will be agreeable. BTW He is a top notch engineer by trade also.

Hi

but you may not look inside, i fear mice had been living in it. i want to disassemble, clean, and reassemble someday...

3 or 4 yrs ago i had contact to a seller who sold 2 of them on ebay... including the powerpack... his price was ok, ~700 he wanted for very clean units, but, the shipping to Germany would eat me up. In Europe i haven't sen one yet.
ST-400 i seen some... i missed a defect w/champ front and meters very close to me...
