Eames Chair/Ottoman - replica?

It's certainly not original, the base and overall proportions and materials are a giveaway) but a good deal at that price for how comfortable it probably is.

The round chrome base of the chair looks wrong. AFAIK, they have always looked like this and this one is real leather, not vinyl.

This chair screams: dim the lights, pour yourself a drink, put on some vinyl, sit back and relax, stay awhile!

Yeah, replica or not...check it out. I have the Selig version of that chair and it's just fantastically comfortable.

Just a word of caution in case anyone starts looking on line for one of these reproductions(copies). I love the design of these chairs. Who doesn't, but recently sat in a copy at a modern furniture store and although it looked nice and well made it was very uncomfortable. Just did not fit right. So we being impulsive buyers as we are, try before you buy.

Oddly enough, I've found both the Selig and the Plycraft versions of that chair to be more comfortable than the actual Eames. It's all about how each person fits to the chair, but I still find it kinda funny.

Same here. My Selig is quite comfortable. I haven't sat in any of the newer knockoffs, maybe the older ones were made better. Wouldn't be surprising.

That one appears to be a Selig. I'm not sure if the round bases are original, it's possible that the original 5 and 4-point chrome bases were pitted beyond reasonable salvation. The vinyl is definitely not original, those had leather upholstery. Most were a beige color.

great idea for a thread. the lounge listening chair thread! I picked up a plycraft mulhauzer lounge with ototman for cheap on craigslist and had the black vinyl taken off and put real light tan leather on it.
Its very very confortable. Will post a photo tomorrow

I have a replica also. Not sure if it's Selig or Plycraft. I had a guy restuff the cushions with Hi-desity foam under the original batting. Most comfortable chair I've ever had. And it looks totally bitchin'.

Post a pic, I can probably tell you who made it.

Please pardon my dusty clutter.

I have always wanted one of these. The 3 that I have seen for sale in estate sales around here all sold for above $300 with a high to $500.

None of them were originals either..

So here is a little trick to telling the plycraft and selig models (the knock offs) from the Herman Miller Eames (the original). The knock offs show the screw heads on the rosewood (usually covered with a little plastic or wood cap). The original H-M are I believe smaller than the Selig and do not show the screw heads at all.

I have the Selig reupholstered in red leather - very comfy.:thmbsp:

I really like the style of these chairs, but i dont really like the original eames personally, i think its not that pretty, i mainly hate the legs/base. but that one in the craigslist add is awesome.

I think my original 60s Eames is pretty and comfy. Original down cushions and rosewood veneer with a nice patina. 30 dollars well spent.
