Earthquake south of Portland OR last night 09/23/07, 3.6 richter. I thought I felt something but it was hard to tell.

I HAVE felt 2 stronger ones in my lifetime right in this same area, and both times I had insurance. No damage was done though.

Well recently my ins company (who I guess I cant name here?) said they are dropping earthquake insurance and as of last April I think, I dont have it no more, (it was pretty cheap) and to get it now is thru another company which is expensive, maybe around 500 bucks a year with a 25% deductable all contents and dwelling.

I know we're on the andreas fault line and the entire west coast could be in the sea someday, however, I would really hate to get a cracked foundation or something else that would cost me a lot!

Anyone cant live without earthquake insurance?

I've had earthquake coverage with my house insurance with Shield of Shelter since 1989. (I'm on the New Madrid faultline.) Anyway, little by little over the years, they've taken away what they will cover and have whittled it down to damage from the initial quake, but not from any subsequent aftershocks. Flood and storm damage coverage isn't what it used to be either.

Insurance fraud is starting to take on a completely new meaning.

The companies keep taking the money, but they keep doing more and more to get out of paying anything back... Pretty soon, it's not going to be worth buying any insurance.

You'll be money ahead of you just put it into a fund or T-bill or something that gains you some interest, and hopefully that rainy day will never come.

At least then if you never need an insurance payout, the money is still in your posession, or if you do need the money, at least you know what you'll be getting... Not that way when you ask the company to pay a claim.

A lot people down south that got hit by Kartina have lost all hope of getting much if anything from All State, and the courts keep ruling in All State's favor... not a good sign of the future... Big Business keeps on getting richer and more support for ripping us off..

My mother just turned 65 and wanted dentures, she lost hers.
Medicaire won't pay for them. I looked at 41 insurance companies here
and none of them will cover dentures ??? ... Even if she had Medicaire parts
A and B along with Blue Cross, no denture coverage ....... What a joke these insurance companies are .... They make away with the money though ....

I have earthquake insurance. It about doubles the cost of the home owner's policy and has a huge deductible, if memory serves, it's like $25,000. But earthquakes are pretty common here so I bite the bullet and pay it.
