Easy fix??

Hey all, I am new to this forum as well as Marantz receivers. I have a 2230b that my girly got me for my birthday. I absolutely love the way it looks, however the dial screen is green and not blue. I have read that this is due to the aging of the vellum paper behind the display. Is this an easy fix? I have relatively no experience in working on audio gear. If its not, I am good at following directions so if there is a step by step guide that'd be great. I have poked around a little bit but haven't found much.

Thanks

Its very easy. Just remove the faceplate and pop off the plexiglass dial-face. The Vellum paper is held on with sticky tape and will pry off (There may be two screws holding the glass onto the left where the meters are.)

You can replace this with printer paper believe it or not.

Thank you so much! Now I can get that classic blue look that I have wanted since I was ten years old.

This is the paper on the back of the faceplate, should be able to buy the paper at any stationary store or some say at the grocery store....Good luck

My 2325 had a greenish look until I changed the dial fuse lamps out for LED's. Now it is deep blue. Even if you change the paper it won't look as deep a color blue as you would get by changing it to LED's. The LED's are brighter, don't generate the heat and never burn out.

This is how far I got. I looked up other guides online that suggest taking the entire case off. So do I just pop the plate off now?? Oh and thanks for the pic Chauncy.

Look's like you got the face plate off alright so changing the paper should be easy.....Those are the "fuse lamps" that are on behind the faceplate that the guys are suggesting replacing with LED's. It does give a very good look but can get a bit expensive....your call, Google LED fuse lamps and you will get more options, Think someone around here may have them available.....The cover will have to be removed to replace the tuning meter sig strength meter lamps (i think).....:scratch2:....also Asher, the LED fuse lamps can easily be found on fleabay

Thanks Chauncy. I got everything back together but its still green/blue so I think the only way to get true blue is with the LED. Do you know who is the resident expert here, and possibly who could supply them?

Thanks

No i really dont, right now, but there is GREAT toutorial in the DIY section on how to build your own....looks fairly easy and fun.....:thmbsp:

Sorry, I can't find it right now and I have to go to work, hopefully someone can link you to it....cheers

whsh93a is the man. He has the led's for ya. They will be a direct replacement generally. Just snap in place of the old ones. I don't have a link, but just search for his tag name.

I just put his LED's in a Sansui and they look sweet!

You may not get a response from him right away. I ordered some other lights from him, but he is out of town presently. Actually I think he said he was returning on the 23rd. He may have a lot of catching up to do first.
Good luck!

Did you use blue or white LED's? Did you change the paper also?

I used white LED's and did not change the paper.

I have used Blue LED's in my Sansui 9090 but I would go with the white LED's in the Marantz.

Don is the LED guy. You can contact him through AK or EBAY with the same id. whsh93a. He's excellent and very prompt although he may have a ton of back orders at the moment since he was on vacation.

He is supposed to be back tomorrow (23rd) based on a note he sent me last week when I requested some additional LED's from him.

There is quite a "WOW" factor with the LED's in my opinion. The color will be much deeper and brighter. They look great in the Marantz units. Also, I would change the lamps in the meters too.

Thanks for all the great help guys!! With no technical experience I managed not to break my 2230b! I will be contacting whsh93a about those.

Oh and that that printer paper does work just fine. Just though I'd give a firs hand note.

If you dont want to use the LED s for what reason ever (Costs) you could do, what I have done: I bought a blue glass painter and painted the fuse lamps blue! :-)

the paint need to dry for 4 h then baked the lamps in the oven and they are blue tinted.
this blue works like a filter and make the fuse lamp shine white instead of yellow. This will give you a perfect blue scale and not the greenish one. also works for scales with the white dots like the 2216. :-)

But I dont know yet, how long the paint will last. Did this one month ago first time and still works fine. I will see..
