get a videocam, a stick of dynamite..take the receiver into a deserted field...

that sucks..there has to be a way..surely you're not legally obligated in this situation...:scratch2:

Quote the correct packing and shipping. Let him back out if it is too much. International buyers know how much it costs to ship from the US.

yeah some guy from Italy was asking if I'd ship international and although I didn't say so in the auction, I posted the question and said only to the 48 contiguous. Hopefully this guy is reasonable..I've got 10 years of perfect feedback.

Uuummmm, well, technically, Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, and the buyer is an American citizen, so the buyer doesn't really qualify as a "foreigner".

I wouldn't really worry about it. You're not shipping it to North Korea. Just tell him the total and see what happens.

Send him one of those notes through the Ebay system..that way its all documented. On the other hand Puerto Rico could be one of our next states!

First of all, how can you offer flat rate shipping on a heavy item (EDIT: assuming you did)? Second of all, did you get a rate yet? PR is the US, and rates are not bad at all. I see you are in Mass, if a buyer in CA bought it you would be in the same, or worse situation!

Just to confirm, I quoated a 30 Lb package from Boston: $29.00 to PR, $35.00 to LA.

Just get his US Zip code and sent it USPS as domestic mail unless you need FedEx or UPS.

Just a reminder, there is usually a check box in the listing tool for adding a freight surcharge for HI, AK, and PR... the non-contiguous ship-to's, if you will.

I don't think you will find they consider Puerto Rico "international" in that respect.

This is why I always post "Will only ship to the contiguous 48 states. That means no Alaska, No Hawaii, No Puerto Rico, no Moon" at the end of all my posts. I have still had people try and buy **** with that in the listing from all over. One guy bought a single hacksaw from Turkey!

dont' get me wrong, I'll gladly eat a few bucks one way or the other, I just don't want to go eating 15 or 20 or more.....and I have no hatred towards PR..in fact, I think it's pretty damn cool that some guy over there is getting off on some vintage gear.

He communicated back and said if it's over the quote price he'll pay so we're good. Learning experience for the future...thanks everyone

Just curious here as to why you refuse to ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico? A lot of times it atually cost less to ship to Alaska via USPS than it does to ship from east to west coast. If you only ship UPS or FedEx it costs more to get here because there is no ground shipping to these three locations. We in Alaska fully understand that it costs more to ship up here via UPS or FedEx and when I bid on an item I always ask if the seller is willing to ship USPS because it will allow me to bid more on the item/s for sale so it is a win win for both of us. I understand the hassle of having to fill out customs forms etc with shipping to a foreign country but we in these locations mentioned above are not in a foreign country.
