EPI's Crackling Sound

Well, unless there's been a misunderstanding the crackling follows the amp output. So problem is at the amp/receiver. There would be negligible vibration impact on the amp/receiver connections from bass notes unless the unit was sitting on top of the speakers. While the HK has screw terminals for the output all the EPI speakers I've seen had spring clips, noting to torque.
Not enough information to trouble shoot further.

Yeah, I was wrong - that's not a connection problem. Very distinctive! It does seem like an electronics issue - perhaps a solid-state savvy person out there knows what causes that.

Just throwing this out there cause I cant recall the last time I was inside my EPI100s. Are there any old caps in there that maybe going south? Perhaps getting some sort of pulse or pop from those.

Caps were replaced on the speakers.
(Also, popping moved to the other channel when outputs were switched, meaning it's not the EPI's.)

From what I see there are two non phono inputs. Tape and Aux/Tape. Not likely to pinpoint the problem but have you tried both?

I'd suspect some mechanical element like a slector, switch, relay contact, wire socket, etc. If it were electronic, it's not likely it would go away and then come back again.

Transistor most likely. Though perhaps a weak solder joint allowing intermittent connection.

Unless I've misunderstood we've isolated the problem to the HK.
Perhaps starting a thread in Solid State could put some fresh eyes on the problem.

This sounds like a bad small signal transistor somewhere. As others have said, if there are any sc458 transistors inside they should all be changed as they are known troublemakers.

Quick question, with no music playing does it still pop?
