Esoteric Custom

HiFi in WYO

The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest.
Digging through my stash for speaker wire to test a pair of speakers and I pulled out this mess of wire I picked up somewhere along the way. Never even looked at them as they came with something else I scrounged. I just figured they were lamp cords. Surprise! Esoteric Custom 16 gauge wires. I'm guessing these are relatively old as I can't find any info on them. Any insight out there?

I have a short pair of Esoteric Audio ICs.

They're thick and fancy looking, but produce grain and a thin sound, IMHO.

(no offense intended toward Grain Producers....:naughty: )

Hah! That's why I never looked at it and it's been sitting in the cable drawer for several years! Probably retailed for hundreds.

Probably did. But I wouldn't be afraid to use it if the gauge is big enough. Plus the price was right.

Looks like lamp cord that was relabeled so they could charge a ridiculous amount.

They probably were lamp cord. Esoteric Audio / Streetwires was big in the car audio scene in the very early 1990's with their wire, cable, and power distribution blocks and fuse holders.

The wire insulation always seemed unusually soft making tight cable bends easy.

Interestingly, MB Quart, who was also really big in the car audio scene produced home speakers as well. I bought a pair of 2-way MB Quart bookshelf speakers, and the label at the terminals advertised the internal wiring as Esoteric Audio / Streetwires.
