ESS Performance Series + Rectilinear

As you can see in the first picture I have a pair of Rectilinear speakers.
I also have a pair of untested ESS heil air motion speakers that happen to fit in the midrange hole. Too bad these rectilinears do not have blown domes. I would hire a tech to design me a crossover to use the ESS.
They look neat in the hole and the original yellow plate will fit too.
Anyway, it's bedtime and I can test them tomorrow.
They look interesting that way, but I cannot justify modifying a rare set of speakers like these rectilinears. Should I tape off the midrange wires and attach the tweeter wires from my cabinets to the ESS speakers to test them?

I laid down in bed and I could not sleep.

I got up and attached the wires from the midrange to the ESS heil air motion speaker and laid the cabinet on it's side up at ear level for me standing up.

I turned on the amp with the low cut switch on and the bass volume down all the way. I started with a volume all of the way down and gently turned it up.

My voice as I sang came out of the ESS speaker so fast that it was like I was the speaker. The woofer came second, not even close to as fast as that pleated wonder. It was almost like a one second digital delay on the woofer.
My goodness, I can see why people love these ESS or any heil air motion speakers.
They are crisp, brilliant, and now. I attached to my rca module in my amp, and I played the song through the amp, George Lynch: I will remember. It was only mp3, but it was astounding!

They weren't supposed to sound so good!

I really want full range electrostats.

These Heils are pretty nice though.

Hell, you can stil by a set of Quads, but they won't have the dynamics of a ESS Heil when refurbed correctly.
Panels sound nice-but the bass always sounds a bit drummy-vs a nice paper cone woofer.
They really aren't a poor mans electrostatic-they are there own species.

From what you have said, and from what I have read online.
I would say you are correct, that Quads are far from a poor mans
esl. I really want big esl's, I want to make my own, and
I want them to be monsters. I may make a large single panel
that sits horizontai to get all of the frequencies at ear level. I
Want to build a panel as large horizontally as the largest
3D tv available and use it like this picture.
I made this pic, no actual configuration like this. Well, probably someone
is doing it somewhere.
