Explain to Me Why... My Marantz 2226B Turntable not pushing speakers

i know there is probably a thread and I know I saw this somewhere but I dont know what the issue is. I hooked up a new to me Marantz 2226b. I hooked up my Turntable Sanyo Plus Q25 to the receiver and I have a pair of Dynaco A25s.

There seems not to be enough power to make any sound when I have the phono working. When the FM is on it is pushing the speakers well.

Where is the problem. Are my speakers not efficient enough with a 2226B or is there an issue with my TT? I had the same setup with my Sansui 5000a and they worked fine together. So i think My Receiver is not strong enough.

If it works fine on FM then it's probably your turntable cartridge/wiring.
Maybe you have a MC type cartridge which won't work with the Marantz phono section.
Can you try another turntable?

I do but the cart is Denon DL-110 High Output MC Cartridge. I am assuming that wont work eather. I did not know that a MC cart wont work on a Marantz. What do I need to use that type of cartridge.

Moving magnet ,like a Shure M91ED or V15 type I,II,III or IV.
I'm not familiar with that High Output cartridge.
You can also get an outboard MC phono preamp but it's probably easier to get the mm cartridge.

It's higher than a standard or low output MC cartridge, but still only about 1/3 to 1/4 of the output of a standard MM cartridge.

...which means it should be fine if you just turn up the volume more. This is totally normal, btw. If you turn it up more, but still can't get good sound, then something is wrong somewhere in the phono chain.

Like cratz2 said, the Denon cart's output is still much lower than an average MM cart (for example: Denon DL-110 - 1.6 mV, AT95e - 3.5 mV). You have lower input signal, so you have lower (quieter) output as well. Marantz 2226B is not a very powerful receiver, so there's a limit to how much you can compensate by simply cranking it up.

Either use an MM cart, or buy an external phono stage designed for MC carts. TCC TC-760LC is an example of a decent and inexpensive one.

You can try more efficient speakers too (from what I read, A25 are not efficient), but that would probably be the most expensive solution.

Your Marantz produces an honest 30wpc rms and can drive those A25's to "honey turn it down !" levels.
Try a MM cartridge.

A MM cart will give you higher level output at the same volume setting, but you will get better fine detail off of the DL 110 MC. Many here may dispute this, my experience has generally been that MC's just get a bit more off a good recording. If you system is not on a high level, you may not hear the difference.

If you can't clip the power amp with the Denon, I'll eat my hat.
