Extremely Intermittent 2226B Problem

Just recently got a 2226B. Ran it on a 3 ohm load (which I now know is naughty) and I started to notice every so often on certain songs one of the channels would sound really odd on a few random bass beats. It would be extremely obvious. There would be no ambiance to the sound, like my head would jerk over to look at what made that sound. Like it would sound like the speaker cover had contributed to the sound or something. If I immediately skipped back to the part of the song that made the sound it would not make the sound again. It would play normally (though it would screw up at a later part of the song). If I played the song through and played it again the second time would often be free from abnormal sounds. However, if I didn't play anything for like awhile (15 minutes about) and played the song again the speaker would at some point make the same noise, but usually not at the exact same point. It usually would only occur about 5 times in the song. It is due to something in the preamp section as it still occurs when I just use the preamp section. Is it normal for receivers to develope such minor/intermittent problems? Any ideas what the problem is?

IMHO ....
All sources or just on the TT ?
Could be just dirt on the LP .

But then again..........:scratch2:
If you haven't cleaned the controls yet , I would start there .
Then jump across the pre amp to main amp RCA connectors on the back panel with a patch cord . There is a internal connection on some models that will quit working after awile and require the jumper to be added .
But this is more then likely a dirty switch or push button .

The search tab up top will help you to find out about cleaning controls .

Good luck .

I only really listen through the auxiliary input, so I only know the problem exists when using that, but it may exist when using others.

My 2235B had a problem like yours when I first got it. A good Deoxit cleaning (like Oerets recommended) will probably fix your sick receiver. The pots and switches oxidize over the years, and electrical connections get worse. Deoxit restores the connection, and cures many a problem. The tape monitor switch is the main culprit, every function runs through it. If Deoxit doesn't fix your prob, you may have some bad solder joints, where, I wouldn't know.
