Fabulous Fakes

At work, we were talking about brands that try to fool one into thinking they are getting something better through mistaken name recognition (often using similar fonts) and I came up with a few if I decided to start my own fabulous fakes company:

Conrad-Johnston
Carrie Audio
Cari Audio
Carry Audio
Bioneer
Lynn Audio
Acoustic Reference
Acaustic Research
Techniques

Can anybody think of others?

Sorny
Panasony
Magnetbox
Accuphrase
harmen/kradon
Sound Design
Krull
Pionear
Japan Victory Company
Kenw00t
Sansushi

Of course without copying a name one could also come up with a name that sounds like it would be on something good:

Frankfort Audio Research Labs
Triathlon Audio
Peabody Audio Works (to get a Boston suburb in there)
Ohrenschmalz
ÖRONVAX
Naiv
Godtroende

Well, I have a true to life anecdote of grand mistaken identity.

Not long ago, I went to an auction and spotted a pair of monster sized Tannoy GRF Windsor's (containing 15" Monitor Gold's). I won them with a bid in the hundred's. Many people were openly making jokes and laughing at me for paying so much money for them. One guy, intent on showing me up as a fool walked up, sneered, and said "those are Radio Shack speakers eh".

I just smiled and said "well, I guess I own the finest pair of Tandy's ever made" :)

LOL someone stole my contribution... SANKYO haha

Sankyo actually is an electronic part manufacturer (not to be confused with Sanken). They make electrolytic caps, drive motors and other stuff that goes into equipment with other names on it. I don't know if they're still around or not, but I remeber seeing their name inside all sorts of old equipment like portable tape recorders and radios, etc.

How about Yammaha, Akhai, Murauntz, Pionear, Kenwould, Teknique, Surewood, Boston Accustat, Sonny, Polke, Misshion, Harman Kardan.
If you want to see good fake product names, just visit any street vendor in N.Y.C.
