fairchild month

well its taken almost 1yr but i finally was able to find another fairchild 260 to go with single one i already have.in the process i came across a fairchild 275 and couldnt turn it down.this all took place within a 1 month time frame and needless to say i wont be eating for awhile but at least i can listen to music to take mind mind off food to top it off the 260 arrived monday and the 275 on tuesday.i probally wont be hooking them up to my system until the weekend when i have time to take my mc30's out and try the 260 and 275.although i know what the 260 sounds like im really psyched about the 275 with the kt88 output tubes which is a 65w amp.below are a cople of pics of the 260 and 275.ill also post some nudies later on to show the quality and layout of wiring.its unbelieable.

The closest I have gotten to Fairchilds is that I own a couple of chassis. Those are very nice and congrats on making your pair and finding the extra amp. I bet you get to match it up too.

Sweet stuff there! A couple yrs ago I saw a pair of NOS, unbuilt monoblocs on eBay. They were local to me, but ended up sky-high, naturally. Glad to hear of your good fortune.

i think its just too bad that the fairchild amps are so hard to come by and that theres not too many people that own them.(at least through my searching the net)however when they come up the people that know what they are genarally snap them up quick.the last couple on ebay got pulled before the auctions ended the 260 by myself and the pair of 255's by a fellow ak'er.i almost picked up the single 255 also and would've for the price it went for had it not been for the 2 i had already bought.as for the 275 it wasnt on ebay and i came across it by a fluke after trying to find some info on the net for fairchild.the first thing that came up on google was a f.s fairchild 275.i damn near fell off my chair.after a few emails i struck a deal for it.

for what model are the chassis from?i suppose you dont have transformers otherwise you would have put them together do you?finding another 275 is going to be even more fun but with the luck iv'e been having lately one just might pop up sooner than later.

i saw those amps you were talking about.i believe they were a pr of 255a's which used el34's instead of the 6l6's that the 255 uses.
there was a guy on audio asylum about the same time those came up that had 20 of them unbuilt sitting in his house.man i could only dream of having that many fairchild amps.

Yea, he didn't have the iron for them but had a couple of boxes of the chassis for $40 ea. 6AB4, 12AU7, 2X EL-34, GZ34. I still haven't used them yet but plan on it one of these days. Need some good SE OPTs and schematic for some amps. Have a pair of potted Mil PS 335/335 @ .125ma with 6.3 and 5V taps. There is a 435V @ 50 ma but I don't know what I could do with that. The chassis aren't large enough for a big choke if I use large OPTs and the filter cap goes underneath so there isn't a lot of room underneath either.

thatch,the chassis you have are for the 255a version of the 255.too bad though theres no transformers.since finding them could take forever id probally do the same as you and find some nice iron and build my own amp.your right theres is not alot of room to put filter caps and a choke but it can be done.the 260 i recieved had recently been gone through and the guy did a really good job with the power supply and coupling caps.i suppose if you dint need a huge ass choke then ther'd be enough room.heres a nudie of the underside of the 260 to show you the layout.as you can see theres not much unused space.
