My all-time favorite Wolfman Jack: funny, outrageous and outa-site!
Wolfman introduced me to Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy Reed, James Cotton, Slim Harpo, Lazy Lester, Clifton Chenier, Sugar Pie deSanto, the Staples Singers and many more.Used to hear him on 250,000-watt XERF-AM, and later on XERB-AM.
He will always be the greatest to me.You can still hear him on the radio:

I remember The Wolfman. At one time a favorite DJ. Then came Middle of road FM rock. The stuff with longer air time, the stuff you don't hear on regular stations, The driving music. the stuff most would never hear unless they were tuned to that station or the few like it. The not so popular DJ's that were popular only to their listeners. The underground sound. pushing the edge of FCC regulations. Playing music. the good stuff, not the every hour stuff. I think I'll stop here :D

Dave Dixon (RIP), WABX back in the freeform days, then at WDET.
Martin Bandyke, Judy Adams, Gene Elzy, Ann Delisi all at WDET, 2 dismissed when the programming went to hell a few years back, 1 moved, 1 retired.. The only legend left there is Ed Love and his fantastic jazz program. Ahhh the good ol days...

A little late to the party... Wow, you nailed it! I miss that kind of listening and I enjoyed their music and local events commentary. All morning music and into the afternoon on weekdays... what a slice of heaven, and we lost it in reprogramming for what? talk radio. Geez!

Happy Listening! :beatnik:

I got quite a few.
Larry Lujack WCFL and WLS
Steve King WLS, WIND, WGN
John Records Landecker WLS WLS FM
Eddie Schwartz WIND WGN. Had a voice that was not made for radio. But used to have one guest on all night long for an interview.
Steve Dahl/ Garry Meier WLUP WLS-FM
Dick Biondi WLS
Yvonne Daniels WLS First woman to have a radio show on a major top 40 radio station. She sounded so sexy!
Johnathan Brandmier WLUP now on WGN

I remember Steve Dahl from his days in Detroit.

Also, dude, you have the best avatar:thmbsp:

Happy Listening!:beatnik:

Uh...the guy that started it all...

Clyde Clifford
KAAY-AM
Little Rock, AR

Beaker Street Baby!!!

Yeah, Wolfman Jack was on KAAY-AM as well. I picked this station up in Mankato, Minn. and listened to it just about every night when I was a kid.

I Agree on all of these except for Johnny B. I was working at WLJE in Valparaiso Indiana as the midnight DJ. There was this radio convention thing in Chicago and I went up there to be a part of it for our station. Johnny was there. I walked up to him and told him who I was and that I had been listening to him for a few years and admired his style. He looked at me and said....I dont have time for small town country DJ wannabes. I was polite as I could be in telling him to F off at that point.

Jay Thomas, WXLO in New York. Happy memories of getting ready for high school in the morning.

Also, Charles Laquidara of the late lamented WBCN in Boston. "Morning Mattress" was always fun.

One more and then I'm done -

How could we forget The Nightbird, Alison Steele, on WNEW.

“The flutter of wings, the shadow across the moon, the sounds of the night, as the Nightbird spreads her wings and soars, above the earth, into another level of comprehension, where we exist only to feel. Come, fly with me, Alison Steele, the Nightbird, at WNEW-FM, until dawn.”

That woman had a voice. Sadly, died very young, of cancer.:tears:

Once I weened myself of Cousin Brucie, Harry Harrison, Dan Ingram, Joe O'Brien and the rest of NYC AM DJs.

There was Alison. She was IT!

At around that time there were some DJs from RPI college that were good too, but do not remember a single name.
There was also a guy from a Poughkeepsie station, WEOK I think, who went by the name of Ralphaelle. Who's real name was something like Ralph Marks. Very nice guy.

Earle Bailey - Sirius XM (Best delivery I've ever heard, amazing on-air talent)

Marshall Phillips - WTUE-Dayton (VERY similar delivery as Earle, don't know whatever happend to him?)

Lynn Hernandez - KMOD-Tulsa (Lynn and I went to college together and he's still at it all these years later.)

ME! - I haven't worked in radio since the mid 90's. I still miss it somewhat but it's so stale and predictable now I couldn't imagine working in it.)

Weasel......radio station called WHFS in the DC metro area.

Weasel and his "wonderful, wacky" Wednesdays. Bob, on WHFS 102.3 (pre 99.1), introduced me to surf music so he will forever be a DJ hero.

Cerphe (pronounced "surf") was great and used The Stones' "2120 South Michigan Ave." as his intro music. For you Little Feat fans, it is Cerphe's voice at the beginning of Waiting for Columbus.

Z Rock was Madd Maxx Hammer, Booby Bondage, etc

That was a great station the two times it was here in Dallas.

If you live in the Bay Area, hopefully you remember Steve Masters.

Currently it's college radio: Jesse Luscious, Mixtress 9 and Sex 14s (KALX Berkeley)

It's been four years since this thread was launched and I still think the best radio jock, in my experience, is the late John Peel.

I remember Sebastian Oliver Stone on wxmt in that time frame, and I think I remember the same guy under a different name. You?

Wow this is an old thread. But a goodie. I don't remember that name at all. You from northern Wisconsin?

Didn't see Ron Riley or Art Roberts from WLS mentioned yet. Another guy I knew well was Jeff Hutch from WRIG in Wausau. Hell I knew just about everybody at WRIG except that morning polka guy, LOL. Hey Ma Hey Pa lets Polka.
