Favorite Single Malt Scotch

Monkeyshoulder is good with ice - then again, its a blended whisky.
Monkey Shoulder is considered a blended malt (or a vatted malt in the UK) and not a blended (Scotch) whisky (it contains no neutral grain spirits, only a blend of several malt whiskies).

All single malts have gotten significantly more expensive since Trump levied a 25% tariff on them due to a trade dispute with Europe. Hopefully, these tariffs will go away soon. BTW, these tariffs don't apply to blended Scotch or blended malt (e.g., Monkey Shoulder, Compass Box products).

Article seems to infer that Japanese Single Malts may not be included in the tariffs. Maybe it's time to focus on those. Who makes better audio equipment, English manufacturers or Japanese?

I hear ya, but Japanese Single Malts are already quite expensive, even without the 25% tariff.

Been thinking' of trying a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain Whiskey. In my neck of the woods the term bottle is pronounced as "Bott-ull". I can get 750 mils of the stuff for a big pineapple. Was wondering if any Karmites have sampled this juice?

Rookie single malter here. My wife brought this home. Thanks' for the tip. Lovely on the lips.

Great bottle to have in February. The peat Highland burns to smoke the barley is of the same age as the last of the Wooly Mammoths that roamed the Earth. ...Here is a Pre WWII pic of Highland which really makes you understand how cool a bottle it is your drinking, old sport.

I don't know if this is similar to what you're thinking of getting.

I'm far from a connoisseur but I've tasted this courtesy of friends with cultivated tastes. It was bold and smoky but not as peaty as the Laphroaig which I was not very fond of.

1st oz burns my lips. It's got a great nose and a smooth finish. I'm a convert.

Although was The Shin worth over 2X the price of the other? I am not expert enough to say...

I had a Japanese single malt that I really liked a while ago at a friend's house.

Also, highly recommend Armenian Brandies. the better ones compete really really well with just about anything

I looked around and couldn't find a cabinet to store a few bottles & glasses, so I built the cabinet below:

Scotches:
1. Kirkland 22-year (excellent for $79 at Costco if you can find it)
2. Lagavulin 16 (took me a long tie to warm up to the smokiness)
3. Macallen 12 (a classic, but not as fond of Macallan as I used to be)
4. Glenfidich 15
5. Glemorangie: The Original (came in Costco 2-pack along with "Quinta Ruban". I wanted the "Quinta Ruban" as an affordable hint of "Signet", haven't tried the Original yet)

Favorite would have to be McCallan. I always keep a 12 year on had and have a 18 right now. I tried a 24 once it was awesome.

I also have an 18 year Balvenie at the the moment.

Some years ago I was in a liquor store and I saw a bottle of Yamazaki 18 YO on the shelf. It was selling for $200 US. I almost crapped my drawers then. I looked recently and if you can find it, the Yamazaki 18 YO is going for around $800 US. I couldn’t afford it then and I sure can’t afford it now.
