Finally took the wifes .22 out

I know when I was going for my shooting merit badge in scouts that I had issues getting my quarter sized group at 25 yards. I was never taught the fundamentals of shooting. (pretty much just learned them this year)

Once you get those down things become much easier.

This could definelty play into the fact that boys might already think they know etc. I know my wife has picked up things very quickly. She will tell you that between handguns and rifles shes better with rifles.

I am still trying to find what her sticking point is on her handgun. Could be the fact that its a compact so the sight radius is not that large which puts variations in her shot.

Men/boys tend to be swingin' dicks at the range. I have shot out the bulls eyes on my target while watching a guy next to me unload 3 mags in a row without a single connecter and about 30% going right into the dirt from anticipation. At this point, it's obvious I am a more experience shooter, and I broke a rule and offered unsolicited advice. I politely explained that he was anticipating recoil and that's why his rounds were going into the dirt. I explained that some dry firing might help him see this for himself because he will likely catch himself pushing the barrel down. (This is perhaps the most valuable tip I have ever been given.) He looked at me, shrugged, and unloaded another $20 into the dirt.

Conversely, every woman I have talked to has listened and shot quite well.If not for ego, why would you not take advice from someone shooting that much better than you? I remember a RO coming up and showing me what I have done wrong in the past. I even had one bust my balls a bit for dropping rounds a bit to one side. I asked him what I could do to fix and he pointed out a flaw in my grip. That tip saved my $100s of wasted ammo.

Breath control, trigger control, sight picture.

If you check these three things off in your mind before every shot, you're ahead of 90% of the shooters. Forget one, and it's lost points.

When I competed at the state level, matches that comprised 50 - 80 rounds for record were always decided by a point or two, and often by X-count. The difference between the match winner's score and out of the money in 4th place was seldom more than 5-6 points.

It's a game of small things being consistently executed, coupled with the mental discipline to stay focused on those small things for an extended period of time.

Nice setup, Mike...And it looks like that rifle's seen A LOT of use...That's good. Means its spent its life doing what it was designed for-Providing enjoyment for its owners !

I think thats the flash playing tricks on you. Its only had about 130 rounds through it.

I know I can leave Stacey on the range for several hours at a time. I have decided to get me one as well. I think its silly to have two of the same gun but once we are done with modifications they will end up being different enough.

Seriously. It'll get good around 500. ;)

Every notice how every used pistol ad says, "Has about 200 rounds down the barrel."

That's like every drunk tells the police he's had two beers. :D
