Fisher Allegro X-19 FM-19

Just a softy when it comes to Fisher tube gear. So today when a Allegro console with a X-19 Integrated and FM-19 tuner was spied. Picked up, even though the seller stated it smokes!!!!!

Cut power cord and all..... No table or speakers just the amp and tuner.


So now the fun begins seeing the source of the smoke. Also a manual , no luck so far.

Thanks for the link. On another fisher console unit, IIRC found a free SM download easily with just a model and chassis serial number. Been trying to find that site again since yesterday afternoon.

Hope to have time today to pull the two units out and expect for damage. But may just go see the Zombies play then to the Reggae festival. Looks to be a great night for outdoor music.

Pulled it yesterday afternoon to find a source of the smoke reported.

Looks like a wire or something else burnt coming off the 100uf 250V cap. Plus I can;t tell for sure if a diode might be cooked on the power transformer. The third picture shows this.

Got it going after a diode and new caps. Now have a new question on it's operation.

When switching to phono the unit turns off power. No turntable is connected but there is a place for the connector. The back of the source selector switch has a power switch on back. So is probably doing what it is suppose to do. Can I just jump that so the switch is closed even when phono input is selected? The cabinet is without a turntable and was just wanting to be able to test or play another table.

When a signal is feeding the input and the switch moved to phono sound is heard for a split second as it powers down.

Your problem is related to not having a turntable. Use the schematic to figure out which 2 wires on the turntable power connector need to be jumped to get it running. Otherwise it's performing as designed.

Finally got around to pulling the metal cover off the power switch ganged to the back of the selector switch. Needed to get the big guns out. Solder gun not hot enough to remove the hold down. Had to get the butane iron out to remove the old solder from cover. Once that was accomplished easy enough to cut the not needed wire and jump the contacts. Now have a extra input to use.


A real nice sounding unit!
