Fisher Console with Altec 604E Drivers

Picked up a cool Fisher Console yesterday. Got a call from a woman with some Altec speakers. She mentioned they were hooked up to a Fisher Consol. Long story short the 3 piece unit has a new home. I looked at 100's of pictures and searched here & Google for the model. No model # or name on the Console. Here is what I know. Receiver 210, Dual 1219 TT, Speakers are Altec 604E Super Duplex. Cabinets match Console perfect. Any insight on this model? Thanks Fever

I know that one is NOT a FACTORY FISHER! It's definately a custom cabinet job, along with the ALTEC's.

The 210 has the same styling as a 175-T which came out in '67. Look on the back of the chassis and see if it has a different model # like 21-R or 22-R. Fisher changed the model # of the receiver chassis' when installed into a console. Also if the Phonographs power leads connect to a molex connector on the back of the receiver that is another clue as whether it was originally a standalone or a console version.

I found the manual @ www.elektrotanya.com. The 210 luckily has Silicon output's. So shouldn't be too hard to find if one goes bad. According to the manual, it's at least a 1970 model. Either built in the states, or one of the early Hong Kong units.

110W IHF spec'ed total. Probably around 25-28 watts per channel RMS. B+ on the finals is 32 volts so it's probably no more than 30WPC. And they do have a good sound to them. I would clean it up/recap the power supply 1st, test, then recap the other boards with testing in between them. Surprisingly the Early Fishers run under the radar, and have an undeserved reputation as lousy sounding units. Before the tuner went kafluie on my 175-T (andI started using it for parts), it sounded as good or better than some others Twice it's size in wattage. The 210 is very similar otthe 175-T so it should sound similar.

Don't expect to rattle the house to the foundations, although with the right speakers, as little as 5W has been known to blow out windows. With those Altecs it'll sound real nice.

Buy the cabinet and pick your speakers and components.Either the dealer would assemble it or you could do it yourself like a giant kit.Right down to building the amps and staining the cabinetry.

I pulled the Receiver & the tag says 210 T. Regular RCA jacks. No identification on cabinets at all. Under neath, Behind panels, Back. I love the smell of the vintage wood. Its like 20 Sansui 9090's in one room.
 
Wow, 604 Super Duplex. Those are sweet. I'd bet a little well designed bracing, stuffing, and maybe some port work if possible would make those cabs sound sweet too. Purdy cabs, wouldn't want to hack them up too much.

Yeah, I'd be a lot more excited about those than the fisher gear...
 
any day that yields up a pair of Altec Duplexes is a pretty good one, even if it also means that there's a solid state Fisher receiver to deal with...

That is a really nice custom cabinet/speakers ensemble you picked up. I wish the companies that produced those would have identified themselves somewhere on their work. What do the sliding doors reveal? Storage?

I would tend to agree with the others who have pointed out that the 210-T isn't really an ideal match for those speakers. One possible carpentry-free upgrade would be to substitute a 1st generation Fisher receiver or integrated amp (TA-600, TA-800, 500-S, X-101, X-202). Their dimensions are a near-perfect match: 210-T = 15½ X 4⅝ vs TA-600 et al = 15⅛ X 4¾. A brass faceplate would go nicely with all that walnut.
 
Im still blown away about the speakers. I have some Sansui tube amps that would be a great match. Im gonna give the Fisher to a friend. I just found out they are indeed Barzilay. Thanks Stephen J. Im getting ready to fire them up. Later Fever
 
FYI and FWIW, I would opine that it's worth investing in better crossovers for the 604E. There are several very viable alternatives (off the shelf or DIY).
 
I was blown away when I seen the 604E's They sound amazing. Im a huge altec fan. If not for the wealth of info here I would still be trying to figure out the brand of cabinet. Thanks AK
