Fisher x1000 6bq5 version - opinions please

Hi to everyone, could any members here give me their opinion of the x1000 6bq5 version?
This is the version that came out of a Fisher console. My thanks in advance

Fisher's very first stereo integrated amplifier. Well respected among the Fisher crowd. I grew up with one playing in our home daily. Plenty of power for typical use with typical speakers, although high efficiency speakers will bring out its best. The version with concentric tone controls (as opposed to ganged) is the most desirable one, but both perform equally well. Built like a tank. Has the classic Fisher/tube sound. I own two of them. Never heard of anyone who didn't like them........

+1 what Dave said. It was in the Executive V console (early 1961). Probably the best of the 6bq5 integrated amplifiers from Fisher of that era. Fairly Rare. But that doesn't detract from rehabbing it. No replaceable parts that are unobtanium. Hook it up to the right speakers (high efficiency--96db and >, the higher the better) and it doesn't give up anything to 7591, 5881, or other amps in the 40-50w total watts range except total watts. However the 6BQ5 amps from FISHER are very well liked, easily worked on, and safety and reliability mods are generally the same as for other straight and integrated amps from FISHER. Bring it over to the FISHER Forum and you'll find all kinds of stuff.

I never got that model Fisher except i really wanted to buy the big X1000. I always wondered why they decided to use the same model for 2 totally different amps. Does your model have a brass face plate? IF it does it is really difficult if not impossible to rehab the face plate when it has marks from corrosion. At least i have not come across a way to do that. Does anyone know of a way to fix that?

Primo; The X-1000 (6bq5 version) is the console version of the X-101-ST amp from 1961. It was used exclusively in the Early 61 Executive V console. The bass circuit has .0047 caps in it to limit bass due to speaker to phono feedback in the console. Out of the console, they can be changed to .047uf to beef up the bass a bit.

Then you have the 1964 or so X-1000 with EL-34's in it. FISHER's FLAGSHIP Integrated Amp. Preamp is from the 400CX2. They were bringing about $1.5K back in '05 and one just sold on the bay for $1.65K.

Guess they thought 50 years from then no-one would really care about the difference. Go Figure!!!?!?!?!

Right, it was just pesky having the 6bq5 model show up in my Search engine after getting excited about getting a hit on the x1000.
The rarity of the large Fisher made the price of that unit too rich for me, so, i went with the Scott 272. It is pretty much the same thing at least from a power tube stand point. Both units are impressive to look at.
