Five More Maine Scenes

Some more pictures from around Maine. These are all B&W (desaturated color, actually). Back when I started out in photography, B&W natural-light photography was pretty much it for amateurs; color film and processing cost the Earth, and so did flashbulbs.

These pics were all shot with various Minolta SRT cameras and Rokkor prime lenses, incidentally: very much in keeping with AK's upmarket-but-not-ridiculous 70s schtick.

Picture #2

Is a winner! Great composition, wonderful detail, good contrast range and monochrome! There is something about monochrome that forces the eye to investigate the depth of detail and not just the form.

Great shot.

Dunno what others think,

but I think there is something about a b/w photo, say you have the same pic side by side, one colour, one b/w I find the b/w one sticks out more

Just seems to 'hit you' more.....if you get my meaning??

For a while I was posting prints in my cube at work. One time I put up one B&W print, which I had deliberately printed that way to emphasize the geometry of the subject and suppress a distracting neon sign that happened to be in the scene. --Not one positive comment! "Why is it black and white?" "Why isn't it color?" is all I heard. And "I don't watch black and white movies - color is more realistic". I have since given up on the office postings, as I can't tell what people appreciate.
