FM muting help needed

The 3 position muting switch on my Kenwood KT-8007 tuner seems to have no effect on the noise generated between channels. Other than that, the tuner sounds great once a channel is tuned in. Is this likely to be a problem that can be solved with Deoxit, or is it more likely to be a faulty muting switch? If it is the switch, is this a relatively easy fix or a big problem?

I doubt Deoxit will fix the issue. Probably not a bad switch either. Probably 50/50 alignment or a bad transistor in the muting circuit. Not a huge problem. The tuner is working without the muting. I never use muting anyway.

There may be a muting adjusting pot, probably close to the IF chip, that has been set to minimum muting. If so, it can be adjusted to restore muting action if the circuitry is operational.

My Kenwood KT900 repeatedly and regularly blew the 2 FETs that did the muting. Maybe this model of yours uses a similar circuit which is hard on fets.
