foobar freezing

Ive been using Foobar for flac playback. Its been fine for a few years.

I noticed in the last week sometimes Foobar hangs or freezes for a moment during playback. Levels freeze music stops for a split seconds and then resumes.

What is likely happening?

I was hoping there might be an easy explanation before I completely remove foobar and reinstall.

Did you load the WASAPI driver? That and adjusting the buffering might help. Also, try shutting down whatever you can when you use it like anti-virus, etc. maybe that would help.

Defrag not a bad idea either, PC maintenance stuff.

I use my music laptop pretty much only for music and I keep it clean. I think that helps. Having music on an external drive is big too. You don't want the OS working off the same drive you're pulling music from. Bottleneck in the making there.
 
Wasapi and a larger buffer sized has kept me nice and lag free

Hi res takes a while to buffer when clicked tho
 
I've not had many computers that don't need to be blown away every few years if they're in regular use, just from the clutter they acquire through normal use. If you haven't backed up and wiped the drive clean and did a reinstall, it might be time. Since you're hesitant to reinstall foobar, I'm guessing you haven't considered reinstalling windows, lol. That's why I use a dedicated laptop for music duty, less clutter, less problems.
