When I first got into Russco turntables I searched high and low for any and all information on them. I found this old blog early on and looked through it pretty good but somehow I missed this one. It looks to be a very early Russco Studio Pro idler.
As an owner of a Russco Studio Pro Model B, I wondered what the Model B was about. Seems that if your going to have a Model B than there must have been a Model A or some such thing. Well, it turns out that it was simply called the Russco Studio Pro.
Construction is similar to the Thorens TD-124 in that the motor drives another pulley by way of a o-ring type belt. That pulley shaft in turn drives the idler wheel. Uses a Bodine motor like the earlier Studio Pro Model B does. It's a bit more complex with the intermediate shaft and I'm sure a bit more costly as well.
My guess is that the redesign was not only cheaper to make but a little better as well with less moving parts. I'm also thinking that this was a very short lived model before the "B" Model was introduced.

Does anyone have one of these or have experience with one? From the top it looks identical to the Model B.
Anyway, for me it was an interesting piece of history buried in an old blog.
