I haven't yet -- myself -- met an amazing one - any suggestions?
as a sort of aside - My daughter got me the video of Sideways for Christmas one year - we all watched it together and, fairly on, I said "That guy sounds just like me!"... and my daughter smiled and nodded knowingly... I even look like him (kind of)...

I have had a few good Californians. Can I remember the name? No of course not.

Have you seen Bottle Shock? I love French wine but we too can make some great wines in this country.

I totally agree - my tastes in American wines run towards Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Petite Syrah. On another front, we have some good friends who bird hunt in Argentina. They introduced us to Malbec before it became fashionable here... some nice Malbecs available.

We here in California are fortunate to have 1000s of great wines to choose from. It's crazy.
Ridge Vineyards, just a couple miles from me, made the cut in the original Judgment of Paris in 1976 from which the movie Bottle Shock was based on. In 2006, 30 years later, Steven Spurrier the instigator held a re-enactment. Ridge Vineyards came out on top in it's class.
