That sucks. But probably didn't cause to much damage. It was going so slow the rails probably took more damage than anything on the engine did.

Curious, I looked it up. The derail is called a "catch point" and it's intended to prevent an overrun on the siding or prevent a collision on the main line. Interesting.

No it is there on purpose, to prevent a runaway train from entering the mainline.

I think they can jack it up and lever/push it on the rails, one axle at a time.
At least that is what we do on subway cars.
Would be interesting to watch them re-rail the engine.

that type of derail (split rail) is not removed, rather it is thrown (like a switch) into alignment
