I've been lurking the forum here from Akron, OH for a little while and decided to just sign up. I must say, most of you that I've seen, have jaw-dropping systems that I can dream of one day having. Being newly wed with a wife going back to school unfortunately means less money for toys :)

I have a couple cheap tables that I use for now to enjoy my vinyl from time to time. I just picked up an old Panasonic se-840 (also labeled as the sd-84) to play 78's with. I have a weird thing for vintage Panasonic stuff, even though I know it's not great equipment, but it just looks so awesome.

I recently visited the Third Man Record store in Nashville, which was quite a treat.

Lots of knowledgeable folk here, with a willingness to help.

We like what we like - and if that's vintage Panasonic stuff for you, then that's great.

Enjoy what you have and when and if you and your wife have some "toy-disposable" cash, you can always change up your TT.

Welcome Mike and welcome to the madness :) As a teen, I had a Panasonic all in one record player, AM/FM 8 track and Thruster speakers. Now, I had hoped for a cassette deck on it, but beggars cannot be choosers ;). My dad had an All in One Panasonic Reel to Reel AM/FM stereo unit he brought back when he came back from Vietnam. So Panasonic has always been up there to me.
 
Hey Mike, welcome to AK. I was in a similar boat in that I had been lurking for a while and decided to join just yesterday.

There is an amazing amount of info here and a great group of people to help out and assist when needed.

Congrats on your marriage. If she enjoys music just as much as you do, you will be fine if/when you decide to upgrade. My wife and I have been married 8 years in July. She has been very supportive of my hobbies. If/When I would buy something, I would also buy her what she likes. As long as she is included, you will do just fine.

The members of AK have a wealth of knowledge and always willing to help when called on. Participate as often as you can, but most important, enjoy the music together, and let you ears be your guide when you decide to add components to your system.

Welcome to the Club. From one NE Ohio native to another, it's always nice to see a friendly face (or avatar, as the case may be).

I assume you have, but I'll bring it up anyway just in case. You should check out Square Records, which is a pretty decent shop in the Akron area. Also, I'm not sure if The Exchange has stores that far south of Cuyahoga County, but I know there's one in Fairlawn and those are another great place to pick up good vinyl scores. If you're ever coming up 77, let me know and I can recommend some great places to visit in the Cleveland area. If your lady likes records, too, it could be a fun couples roadtrip!

Hey man! I live in west Akron so Square Records is right down the road! I've been there a few times. Haven't stopped into an Exchange for awhile though. The wife and I are going to some garage sales right now...fingers crossed for a good find!
 
Welcome as well! The next step is to scrape together $25 and become a subscriber which gives you access to Barter Town where AK subscribers buy/sell/swap their gear and parts. I foolishly waited almost two years to take this next step. I hate to ponder the good deals I missed. You can place a notice in Barter Town for more classic Panasonic gear.
