forum format question for moderator(s)

hi all,

when i log on to this site after being away for a day or three, i click on to the "new posts" icon to see what's been discussed since my last wisit. more often than not, before i have scrolled to every page, it stops working - ie: i get a message saying "sorry, no info, please try again", or asomething like that. then there's no way i can check out the newer threads w/o checking every individual forum - a real pita, imo. :worried:

is there any way a new link could be set up that yust has all the threads listed in chronological order? or at least for the last three days? or is this awreddy possible, & i yust haven't figured out how to do it? :scratch2:

thanks,

doug s.

Doug,

Never heard of this problem before with anyone else. Curious as to what browser you use and how up to date your anti-virus and spyware protection is. I use Firefox, and it acted squirrely with AK for a while (putting images in odd places, etc.), but since the last update, I haven't had any problems at all.

This happens to me too, but has gotten better, ie longer before the "Sorry" message, since the last upgrade...

Not too big of a deal, and I'll go and use the "view todays' posts" option. I use Explorer.

Pete

This will happen if one of two things is going on:

1. Your browser is wiping cookies from your system automatically

2. You click "view new posts" again instead of your back button when you're examining a new thread for a length of time. The timeout for viewing new posts since last visit is 15 mins as I recall, meaning you can see the same posts as new posts for 15 mins. After that, it refreshes to the newest posts since you were last on.

i usually use netscape, sometimes explorer. as the computer is on a federal network, its anti-wirus & spyware protection is extremely up-to-date.

that's the only time I've seen the 'time out error message', when I take too long a time reading the first time through....

this explains a lot. many times, i am at work when i look at the forum - i need a break, ya know? ;) but, i obviously cannot yust blow off a big chunk of time to scan all the posts since my last wisit. so, when i get back to it, there's nothing left. :scratch2:

Guys, just hit the "back" button instead of closing the window or hitting "new posts" again. The only thing you'll lose is the ability to find new posts in a certain thread, but the updated threads will be shown.

that's what i do, or more likely, i will click on the next page number indicated at the top or bottom/right hand side - no go, when the window has been open for a while...

If you have hundreds of posts to scan, right click on the page numbers and open them all in new windows in one go. Then as you read, right click again so the window is not toggled.

I use the main page button for "todays posts" quite often also.
