Found a Marantz 2225 for $50

I have the chance to pick up a very nice Marantz 2225 tomorrow morning. Any things I should look for other than the normal wear and tear? I might not be able to hook it up and test but for $50...

For a small listening area is this worth it? I've always wanted one of the Marantz flywheel receivers and even though the 2225 is only 25 watts I've heard it's a good one. Any thoughts?

What speakers should I concider for this receiver?

$50 is good price if it is in good cosmetic condition. For small area and moderate listening levels 25wpc is fine. I do a lot or repair work and I see failures with signs of heat related damage (to PC board and components) on many low wattage units. You would not expect to find heating issues in low wattage units, but I have found is that many seem to push them to levels where they are operating at near maximum (easy to do when you have less then 40wpc). This causes heating and a lot of stress on the output section. low wattage units have their limitations. If you keep this in mind... you will have no problems.

Low wattage units are jut not party machines...

Speakers.... Most will work fine... stay away from demanding load like electro statics, or low impedance speakers... but generally, let your ears be the guide.

Nothing wrong with it for a smaller room at moderate listening volumes...i.e. it is a perfect bedroom, office or kitchen unit ... and obviously a living room if your speakers are efficient and you are not trying to drive the neighbours to distraction. I'm running a 2240 in my kitchen and it never struggles to fill the room.

Price discussions need to be in $$ and sense forum, so don't expect any feedback on that aspect of your query.
